Advertising and promotions commission seeking applications

Resident-at-large position vacant

Discover Bella Vista, Bella Vista's advertising and promotions commission, is seeking applications from those interested in serving in the resident-at-large position. This is a voluntary position that works to advance the goals of Discover Bella Vista and increase tourism to the city.

At-large commissioners must be Bella Vista residents and are required to attend eight commission meetings per year, typically held in the afternoon. Subcommittee opportunities are available as well. The commission is made up of seven total members -- four representatives from tourism-related businesses within city limits, two members of the city council and one resident at large. Commissioners are appointed by the Bella Vista City Council, after nomination by the Commission. Terms are four years.

Code Ann. § 26-75-601, the advertising and promotions commission has power and authority to determine the use of the advertising and promotion funds, consisting of a one percent tax collected on prepared food and two percent tax collected on lodging stays of less than 30 days. These funds can be used in a variety of ways in accordance with state law to promote tourism in Bella Vista.

The commission is accepting applications until 10 a.m. Friday, May 10, and will vote on a candidate at the next public meeting on Monday, May 13. Applications are available at Bella Vista City Hall, 101 Town Center, or by email to Paula Sanders at [email protected].
