Townhouse Association hears complaints

The Bella Vista Townhouse Association board of directors heard a number of complaints during its Wednesday, June 20, regular meeting.

Townhouse resident Judy Rowe said there were drainage and erosion issues near her Canova Lane townhouse.

"All this rock has washed down," she said.

Townhouse association general manager David Whittlesey said that, while her home is on the project list, workers have not reached it yet.

Board member Tom Barber said that he's experienced similar issues but workers went down the list and reached his home, though it was roughly 18 months after he signed up. Workers can only move so fast, he said, but, in the meantime, the water can do damage.

"We get seven, eight inches of rain, that's a lot of force," Barber said.

Rowe said she wanted the work done.

"Dave has excuses, I want someone to come out and look and see if there are any rocks out there," she said. "I'm not going to wait two years when I'm paying $90 a month."

Townhouse resident Oma Jean Rodriguez, who lives on Cora Circle, said she was disappointed that the grass in her neighborhood is shoddy.

"It wasn't done right," she said. "It will probably never grow ... that was a lot of money wasted."

The association should hire someone with a little more expertise on plant life to help improve the landscaping rather than wasting money on grass that isn't going to grow.

"I know you all have a lot of money and you all have wasted a lot of money," she said.

Another resident, Andy Buchl, said he and his wife, Elaine Buchl, have a retaining wall that has been neglected. Buchl said he was told the retaining walls are painted every five years, though Whittlesey said the standard procedure is every 10 years.

"We've got walls that haven't been painted for 20 years because they haven't needed it," Whittlesey said.

"Does this wall need it?" Buchl asked.

But even if the procedure is every 10 years, he said, the wall needed fresh paint and the association should take care of it. He does not believe the wall has been painted in about 13 years, he said.

He said previous visitors have complained that his neighborhood is starting to look "trashy," a criticism he doesn't enjoy.

Buchl said that, with company on the way, he has purchased paint on his own dime and hired painters, and he expects the association to reimburse him.

Chairman Jack Adams said he does not intend to pay for the paint because it was already scheduled for next year.

He said the board does attempt to keep dues low, but to do everything people want would likely double them.
