Bella Vistans headed to Blowing Springs to socialize and hunt fireflies for the second year in a row.

The free event, which was organized by the POA, attracted several families and their children, as well as a few dogs.

Janay Nutt, chairwoman of the POA's Community Involvement Committee, helped to organize the event.

Nutt said she was glad to see people showing up.

"It's a great event to get people out with their neighbors," she said.

Hot dogs were available for purchase and cooked by Bella Vista's Boy Scout Troop 3410 as part of a collaboration with Northwest Arkansas Bully Haven Rescue, a foster-based rescue for bully breeds, like pit bulls, boxers and bulldogs.

Teah Bidwell, the rescue's president, said any fundraiser is important for the rescue because it does not have a steady supply of income but does provide care for some special needs dogs who may never be adopted into a permanent home.

In addition to rescuing dogs, sometimes from shelters, the rescue works to educate people about the breeds, which she said have a bad reputation they do not deserve.

"Bully breeds are very misunderstood," she said.

Currently, she said, the rescue has five dogs in need of a home. More information can be found on the rescue's Facebook page, NWA Bully Haven Rescue.

But while this gave that rescue a chance to get its name out and raise some money, the event also gave people a chance to kick back and enjoy the scenery.

Bentonville resident Jason Wade, who brought his son, Nolen Wade, 6, said that this was an excellent way to spend part of the Father's Day weekend and made for a good family event in general.

"It's a blast, you know, it's our first time out here," Wade said.
