Aug. 16

s St. Bernard Catholic Church bingo is held on the first and third Thursday of the month. The next bingo will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, in the parish hall. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. The "jackpot" is up to $1,000.

Aug. 17

s American Legion Pineville and Jane Post 392 will host the third Friday benefit dinner to begin serving at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17. The dinner will be prepared by the Ladies Auxiliary and features pork tenderloin, potatoes, vegetable, salad, rolls, dessert and drinks. A donation of $7 for adults and $5 for children (10 and younger) is requested. Everyone is welcome, and carry outs are available. The Legion building is located on Jessie James Road, next to the Cornerstone Bank in Pineville, Mo.

Aug. 18

s Pea Ridge National Military Park will conduct Civil War artillery programs on Saturday, Aug. 18. Artillery demonstrations are scheduled for 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., behind the park visitor center. The military park will conduct these programs throughout the summer and early fall. Aug. 23-26

s The Bella Vista NLM Regional and Sectional Bridge Tournament will be held Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 23-26, at Riordan Hall in Bella Vista. Each year this tournament supports a local charity or group, and this year it will support the Bella Vista Veterans Wall of Honor. The tournament hopes to attract new players in the social bridge circles of Bella Vista. You don't have to be a duplicate bridge player to have a good time. "Our club is one of the largest supporters of beginner duplicate bridge in Northwest Arkansas," said Kevin Glasgow, manager of the Bella Vista Duplicate Bridge Club. "We promise you will feel welcome, feel safe and have fun playing at our club and tournament." Three teachers are in the mix to offer beginner lessons at Riordan Hall. Aug. 25

s Bella Vista Animal Shelter presents its second annual "Chip & Dip" to be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at the north end of Allen's Foods located in the Sugar Creek Plaza. This micro-chipping and dog bathing event is for dogs only, but cat owners are welcome to stop by for a microchip coupon to have a cat safely chipped at the shelter. Cost for the microchip is $10, the dog bath is $10, and the Chip & Dip Combo is $15. All proceeds benefit the animal shelter.

s Bella Vista Decorative Artists will host a Mad Hatter Card and Game Party from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, located at 1 St. Bernard Lane in Bella Vista. Reservations only -- tables of four-plus. The cost is $12 per person, which includes a lasagna luncheon and door prizes. Sept. 3

s The Bella Vista Community Band's next free concert will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3 at Blowing Springs Park in Bella Vista. The remaining concerts of the year will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30 at First Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Dr. in Bella Vista and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16 at the Bella Vista Community Church.

Sept. 8

s First Annual Highlands Church Car Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Highlands Church, 371 Glasgow Road, Bella Vista. It is a different kind of show and will include automobiles, bikes and tractors, projects in the works to complete restoration, along with the owner's story. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the show begins at 10 a.m. Hamburgers, hot dogs and sides will be served inside the church for a donation of $10 for the meal. All proceeds will go to Highlands Church missions: Snack Packs, Samaritan's Feet and Bright Futures within the Gravette school district. s The Bella Vista Welcome "Meet and Greet" for new residents and renters who have moved to Bella Vista in the past six to nine months will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Bella Vista Country Club, located at 98 Club House Drive in Bella Vista. The goal of this event is to introduce newcomers to the many amenities offered by the POA, as well as to meet Tom Judson, COO of the POA, and Peter Christie, mayor of Bella Vista. s Coffee with a Cop brings police officers and the community members they serve together over coffee to discuss issues and learn more about one another. Chaplin Jim Beckwith will discuss the pressures and dangers facing law enforcement today, and Chief James Graves will be available to answer questions. Village House of Bella Vista is the site for this visit from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11.
