The Bella Vista Garden Club (BVGC) recently received an award from National Garden Clubs Inc. (NGC) for Overall Winner for Radio and/or TV Programs. Considering that the NGC is an organization comprised of 50 state garden clubs with over 165,000 members in 5,000 member garden clubs nationwide, this was a significant honor.
"Bella Vista Gardening" is a monthly television program produced by Geri Hoerner, Past President of the BVGC and a Benton County Master Gardener. Guests appear each month to talk about different gardening subjects. They also discuss "things to do in your garden" each month. Hoerner said, "This program is a great way to let the public know about gardening and upcoming events for the BVGC, as well as other gardening events in the area." Topics in recent months have included soil, native plants and butterfly gardens.
The program can be seen on Cox Cable Channel 222 on Wednesday's at 8 p.m. and Saturday's at 8:05 a.m. The program is also shown on AT&T U-Verse by selecting BVTV Channel 99. All programs can also be viewed on YouTube.
The BVGC is a member of the South Central Region of Garden Clubs Inc., as well as the Arkansas Federation of Garden Clubs Inc. In addition to the national award, the club also received three awards from the South Central Region during the recent 2018 Convention in Texas and 13 awards from the Arkansas Federation of Garden Clubs Inc. The Bella Vista Garden Club has 96 members and meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at the Bella Vista Community Church located at 75 E. Lancashire Blvd. in Bella Vista. The next meeting will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26. Guests and new members are always welcome and invited to attend.
