Traveling Sams

Twenty-four members and guests of the Bella Vista Traveling Sams were at the monthly meeting Feb. 9 at Rhythm & Q in Bella Vista. The group enjoyed breakfast and Don Cowell led in prayer before the meal. President Virginia Reynolds called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Reynolds thanked Vic and Jan Horswell for being the Wagon Master and welcomed guest Herb Wise. Secretary Anne Mathis announced her resignation as secretary. Members were reminded to keep track of volunteer hours, save Box Tops for Education and soda tabs.

Joan Dahl announced the Women's Shelter is in need of suitcases or totes. Prayer requests were announced: John Farrell is starting chemotherapy; Bob Mathis' brother died; and Vern Sutter lost his brother-in-law. Max Waugh held the 50/50 drawing, and Art Hamilton won.

The next meeting will be Thursday, March 9, at the Egg & I.

Hill 'N Dale Hiking Club

Hill 'N Dale Hiking Club of Bella Vista will hike a section of the Back 40 Trail in Bella Vista on Wednesday, March 1, for the first scheduled hike of the spring season. This will be 2-3 miles of easy to moderate hiking. Meet at 9 a.m. at the Buckingham Trailhead located at Trafalgar and Buckingham Roads. Nonmembers are invited. Travel Club

The Bella Vista Travel Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive, Bella Vista. They will be going over some of the planned upcoming trips, including to the Maritimes Coastal Wonders of Nova Scotia, a bus trip to see the ARK Encounter in Williamstown, Ky., a train trip across Canada on the VIA Rail or the Rocky Mountaineer to see the Canadian Rockies Connector from Vancouver, the Avalon Waterways River Cruise Northbound Grand France May 19-June 3, and Alaska in August 2018.

NWA Civil War Roundtable

The Northwest Arkansas Civil War Roundtable will hold its February meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Old Store annex of the Shiloh Museum in Springdale. The museum is located at 118 W. Johnson St.. The program will be presented by Mark Drummond, who will speak about Civil-War-era photography. Mr. Drummond is a professional photographer who utilizes the 19th century technology in his own work. The meeting is open to anyone with an interest in Civil War history.

TOPS Club

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Club is a supportive environment to encourage healthy nutrition for the purpose of weight loss as well as weight management (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly).

Their chapter meets each Saturday morning at Riordan Hall. Weigh in starts at 8:30 a.m. The meeting starts at 9:30 a.m. Those interested are welcome to visit. TOPS is a great way to help you achieve your resolution to become trim and slim in 2017.

Calico Cut-Ups Club

Calico Cut-Ups is a quilting guild in the Bella Vista area open to everyone of all quilting abilities. The meeting will be held Monday, Feb. 28, at the First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive in Bella Vista. There will be a free workshop on how to make Fidgit Quilts and Pillow Case Dresses. This hands-on time is from 9 a.m. to noon. Bring your sewing machine.

The regular guild meeting begins at 1 p.m. and features four stations this month.Those attending will learn some fun and unique things, such as making a small purse out of men's ties. There will be a $5 fee for nonmembers at the guild meetings.

Altrusa International

Altrusa meets at the River Grille in Bentonville the first and third Tuesdays of the month. This is an international women's organization whose focus is children's literacy.

Bass Club

The Bass Club is a catch-and-release bass-fishing club that holds monthly draw tournaments on Bella Vista's two largest lakes from March through November. The club promotes a friendly environment for anglers of all ages. They fish a team format with boaters and non-boaters paired together, weigh in a five-fish bag limit, and receive the same points for the position in which they finish.

The club meets at 7 p.m. the first Thursday of the month at Riordan Hall, 3 Riordan Dr., Bella Vista.

Bike Club

The Bella Vista Bike Club is an informal group of road cyclists who enjoy riding together. Their only rule is that helmets are required on all rides. Club members come in a wide variety of ages and skill levels. The monthly ride calendar can be found at bellavistabikeclub.com. The bike club is active year round and may be addictive and beneficial to your health.

Decorative Artists

The Bella Vista Decorative Artists chapter meets the second Saturday at Wishing Spring Gallery Studio, 8862 W. McNelly Road, Bentonville (behind Walgreen's). The meetings are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and include a business meeting and painting session. The chapter goal is to stimulate interest and appreciation for the art of painting. All skill levels are welcome.

Needlework Club

The Bella Vista Needlework Club meets at 10 a.m. every Monday morning at Riordan Hall. The group includes those who knit, crochet, cross-stitch, weave, quilt or do various kinds of needlework. There is plenty of room, large tables and light.

Those without a POA photo ID card will need to pay $2.25 at the desk. The annual group fee is $2. The first Monday of each month the club has a meeting and refreshments.

Woodcarvers Club

The Woodcarvers Club meets Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. at Riordan Hall. Guests are welcome, and new members are accepted for a nominal yearly fee. Bella Vista has some very talented carvers and wood burners willing to teach anyone the art of carving or wood burning. The group is a nonprofit organization.

Women's Chorus

Bella Vista Women's Chorus invites singers from the area to join them. All are welcome with no tryouts or experience needed. Directed by Dr. Larry Zehring, BVWC performs classical, pop, folk and show tunes for local clubs and events. The chorus rehearses Mondays at 12:45 p.m. in the music room of the Bella Vista First United Methodist Church.

Kansas Sunflower Club

The Kansas Sunflower Club will meet Monday, Feb. 27, at the Highland Christian Church, 1500 Forest Hills Blvd.

The meeting this month will celebrate the 100th birthday of Maxine Grandon, who has very seldom missed any meetings. She will tell as much, or as little, as she wants about how to live to be 100 years old. Everyone will be welcome to say something about Maxine. There will be cake and other refreshments.

The $3 pizza, pop/coffee will continue along with everyone bringing a potluck salad, vegetable or dessert dish to share.

All former Kansas residents are welcome to attend the Sunflower Club meetings, which are the fourth Monday of each month. There are no dues.

Kingsdale Squares

The Kingsdale Squares will dance at Riordan Hall at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27. Johnny Eubanks will be calling. Lessons will be held at 5:45 just prior to the dance.

Local Writers Group

The Village on the Lakes Writers and Poets, a local writers group, meets from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at the Artist Retreat Center in Old Bella Vista. Bring writing to share.

Northwest Arkansas Coin Club

The Northwest Arkansas Coin Club meets from 6 to 9:30 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the Embassy Suites Hotel at exit 83 off I-49 in Rogers. It is seeking collectors of coins and currency to join for fun and entertainment each month.

Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society

The Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Feb. 27, in the Rotary Room, Bentonville Public Library, 405 S. Main. Jerry Nichols of the Pea Ridge Historical Society will present a program on the early history of Pea Ridge, a community that began before Arkansas statehood in 1836. The public is welcome.

Perfect Harmony Women's Barbershop Chorus meets from 4 to 5:30 p.m. every Monday in the choir room of the United Lutheran Church of Bella Vista. No previous experience or tryouts are required. Join this chorus for a fun and rewarding genre of singing.

Pride of the Ozarks Barbershop Chorus

Pride of the Ozarks Chorus will meet at 7 p.m. Thursdays at Arkansas Arts Academy High School, 506 W. Poplar St., in Rogers. Pride of the Ozarks is a member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, also known as the Barbershop Harmony Society. Pride of the Ozarks is an all-male a capella singing organization which enriches lives through singing. All male singers of good character are welcome to join.

Village Art Club

The Village Art Club meets at 1 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the Wishing Spring Gallery on McNelly Road. Each month one of the exhibitors from the gallery discusses the process and product they show and sell at the Wishing Spring Gallery, which is sponsored by the Art Club.

Each fall, the VAC also sponsors the Bella Vista Arts and Crafts Festival, and the proceeds go to fund art scholarships and grants at local elementary schools to further Arts and Education. The meeting is open to the public and information regarding membership is available at the meeting. All are welcome.
