Tee markers for renovated Scotsdale may be coming

Grand opening of the Scotsdale Golf Course was a topic at the joint advisory committee on golf meeting on Wednesday. The event will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 6.

Tours of the course may be difficult that evening, Golf Operations Manager Darryl Muldoon said. He's expectation about 450 people that night. Tours might have to be arranged before or after the event.

Golfers who play the renovated course will find new stacked-sod-style bunkers, which should give the course a unique look. When they return to the clubhouse they'll find the facility serves beer and wine.

The course still needs tee markers, Board Liaison Ron Stratton said. He would like to see s unique markers for each course.

Committee Chair Jake Grasmick said the volunteer group that works at Scotsdale may be able to create and install the markers.

Golf Operations Director Phillip Wright told the board about a promotion planned for the fall. It will give guests a discount on rounds if they play in the afternoon, when the courses are less busy. Members of the committee cautioned him to use the word "guest" in his promotional pieces and not say that Bella Vista courses are open to the public.

Muldoon, who presented the year-to-date revenue information for the Golf Department, said it has exceeded last year's numbers. Because the reports show revenue rather than the number of rounds, it can be hard to compare to previous years.
