Special To The Weekly Vista

Village on the Lakes Writers and Poets will welcome two accomplished authors in May.

At 11 a.m. May 11, freelance writer Nancy Hartney will be the featured guest during the monthly VLWP writers workshop at the Artist Retreat Center, 13467 Lookout Drive in Old Bella Vista. Hartney recently published her debut collection of short stories "Washed in the Water: Tales from the South." Her work has been published in a number of newspapers and magazines, regional anthologies and Western collections. The free workshop is open to all writers and aspiring writers.

At 6 p.m. May 14, Lori Ericson will be the featured reader for the Village on the Lakes Writers and Poets at the Artist Retreat Center. The event is free, but reservations are requested by calling 479-268-6463.

Ericson grew up in her family-owned cemetery in Fayetteville. She earned a journalism and English degree from the University of Arkansas and spent nearly 20 years as a newspaper reporter in Northwest Arkansas under the byline Lori Harrison-Stone.

She's now writing fiction and working as a city planner in Rogers. After raising two daughters, Sara and Hillary, in Fayetteville, she has settled in Bella Vista with her husband Lloyd, their dog Charlie and a goldfish that seems to have discovered the fountain of youth.

Her first book, "A Lovely County," a mystery based in a fictitious northwest Arkansas county, published in January 2015. "A Lovely Murder," winner of the 2015 President's Award from Ozark Writers League and First Place for Unpublished Manuscript, is expected to be released in November 2016, and "A Lovely Grave" will follow within a year.
