The company that provides trash service in Bella Vista, Republic Service,s will allow residents to exchange their 95-gallon trash cart for a smaller size in January, if they desire.
Starting in November, Republic Services delivered to each Bella Vista residence new wheeled trash carts with lids. Effective Jan. 1, these carts will be mandatory for trash collection throughout the city.
Republic first asked residents to call during October if they wished to request the smaller 65-gallon cart be delivered instead of a 95-gallon cart. They will once again accept these requests during January.
Call Republic at 800-431-1507 to request the change. Exchanged carts will be delivered at the end of February.
After the exchange period ends in January, anyone wanting to exchange for the smaller cart size will be charged an exchange fee of $15, said Jennifer Fagan of Republic Services.
Residents can also request in January to change to the larger size, but will be subject to the exchange fee, she said.
"I would like to remind Bella Vistans that city ordinance requires each household to subscribe to solid waste removal services provided by Republic Services," said Mayor Peter Christie. Residents without waste removal service are subject to citation.
Other changes to Bella Vista's trash service starting in January include billing direct from Republic and the elimination of curbside recycling.
Residents will receive a quarterly bill from Republic in mid-December for trash collection service for January, February and March 2017. Bills will increase by 33 cents per month. In January, residents will receive one final bill -- for December 2016 trash service -- with their POA water bill. After this, the trash bill will no longer accompany the POA's water bill.
Christie encourages all residents to take recyclable materials to the AARP Recycle Center in Bella Vista -- 400 Pinion Bluff Drive.
