Christmas at the library

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the Bella Vista Public Library! Our wonderful staff and volunteers have been very busy decorating four -- that's right -- four Christmas trees! Where in the world would we put four Christmas trees in our little library, you might ask. Well, you'll just have to come by the library to find out. I can assure you, we are using every available square foot, and it looks very festive.

The Friends of the Library Christmas Basket Silent Auction is in full swing. There are more than 100 beautiful baskets on display for you to bid on and, once again, they are unbelievably beautiful. It is amazing what this group can do with some donated items and a few baskets. You just have to see it to believe it. Bidding ends at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10. As always, 100 percent of the proceeds will go toward our much-needed expansion.

We have a couple of new Christmas events this year that I want to tell you about. The Library is sponsoring our first ever Gingerbread House competition, so it's time to get your creative juices flowing. We need lots of participation, so come by the library or check out our website at www.bvpl.org to get a copy of the rules. The Gingerbread Houses will be on display from Dec. 12-17 at the library. Our patrons will be able to vote on their favorite creations all week, and awards will be given out at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 17.

At 10 a.m. Dec. 17, we will have a very special guest in the library. I can't tell you who it is, but he wears a red suit and is very jolly. We invite all the kiddos to come by the library to sit on his lap and tell him exactly what they want for Christmas. This is a great photo opportunity, so be sure to dress your little ones in their Christmas best and don't forget your camera.

We are having a very special Christmas Storytime at the library at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22. You and your family are invited to get cozy with us and listen to some special Christmas stories and make a festive Christmas craft. Of course we will have hot cocoa and cookies. Oh, and don't forget to wear your favorite jammies!

I feel so blessed to be able to enjoy Christmas in the Ozarks. There's really nothing like it. I pray each of you have a very Merry Christmas and are able to enjoy the blessings of this wonderful season.

See you at the Library.
