June showers bring what?

April showers bring May flowers.

What about June showers: I can't figure out a rhyme for hot and humid, but it was just that over the weekend -- stinking hot and humid from all the wet weather. According to Weather.com Bella Vista had nearly 5 inches of rain from Monday, June 15, to Sunday, June 21.

I don't want to be complaining too much, but we need some more heat to dry things out a little bit.

We've had too much rain and I couldn't keep up with the yard work last week, so Sunday I hit the old self-propelled and got it done. Five bags of clippings later, I was finished.

The Poultry Federation met in Rogers last week and the daughter, who is a poultry vet, got her parents tickets to see Trace Atkins, who was their entertainment this year.

I like his music, especially "You're Going to Miss This," but I wasn't too sure if I would like his concert. But I did. As a matter of fact, it was great.

I like those singers who just get on stage and sing. Trace is a lot like George Strait in that respect. Not a lot of dancing and big stage productions -- just him and the band.

And he didn't stick his microphone out so the audience can hear themselves sing off-key. I never really understood the appeal of paying a singer big bucks for tickets and then he or she points the microphone out toward the audience so they can sing and he or she can stand there and watch.

As he sang "You're Going to Miss This," I sat there and reflected over the years watching our daughter grow up and make her way through life. It can bring tears to your eyes reflecting on our lives as she sits three seats down. I wonder if she was thinking the same thing about her soon-to-be 10-year-old son.

Hey, we're having a party and you're invited.

From 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, at the Bella Vista Historical Museum, we will be celebrating the retirement of our office manager, Barb Paulos.

Barb has been a fixture in The Vista office for more than 21 years.

Many of you know Barb from your visits to our office to place ads or drop off stories and hear her hearty laugh and see her big smile.

We hope you'll take the time out of your busy schedules to stop by the museum and wish Barb well as she heads off into retirement.

She will be missed by all of us at The Vista, especially me, because she has been my right-hand person who has the institutional knowledge of Bella Vista and The Weekly Vista.
