Now to Aug. 15

s Pea Ridge National Military Park will host "Life and Limb: The Toll of the American Civil War," a traveling exhibit by the National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health. The six-panel exhibit explores the experiences of disabled Civil War veterans who served as a symbol of the fractured nation and stark reminder of the costs of the conflict. The exhibit will run through Aug. 15. The exhibit is on display at the park visitor center and is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. seven days a week. Administered by the National Park Service, the 4,300-acre battlefield is located 10 miles north of Rogers on U.S. 62.

Thursday, July 23

s The Northwest Arkansas Civil War Roundtable will hold its meeting at 7 p.m. at the Old Store Annex of the Shiloh Museum of Ozarks History, 118 W. Johnson Street, Springdale. The program will tell of the life of former slave and long-time Fayetteville resident Adeline Blakely. The speaker is Anne Sugg from the Washington County Historical Society. Saturday, July 25

s The Saturday Night Social will bring the Arkansas-based guitar trio Finger Food at the Artist Retreat Center. Performing "in the round" and trading songs and stories will be Steve Davison, Danny Dozier and Micky Rigby. The three guitarists play different styles on custom or historic six- or 12-string guitars. The guitarists have recently performed at Wildwood Theater for the Performing Arts and The Oxford American's South on Main. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door. The Center is located at 13467 Lookout Drive across from Lake Bella Vista. Reservations can be made by calling 479-268-6463.

s VBC women's ministry event -- Flip flops, Faith and Friends -- will take place at 4 p.m. July 25, at Village Baptist Church, 380 Glasgow Road. The afternoon will be filled with fellowship, devotion, prayer and dessert in this casual gathering. There will be door prizes and fun. s The Bella Vista Community Concert Band will have a concert at 7 p.m. at the bandstand at Blowing Springs Park. The concert is free to the public. Attendees also can enjoy a picnic supper served from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. provided by the Bella Vista Sunshine Rotary Club with proceeds being donated to non-profit organizations in the area. Blowing Springs Park is located east of U.S. 71 on Dartmoor Road. After crossing the bridge, continue to go straight after stopping at stop sign. Drive past the RV Park until arriving at Blowing Springs. s Community Blood Center of the Ozarks has issued a Code Yellow Alert for A positive, A negative and O negative blood types. There is currently less than a two-day supply of these blood types available for area patients. The next blood drive in Bella Vista will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, at the Highlands United Methodist Church, 371 Glasgow Road. s United Methodist Women's Annual Rummage Sale will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive. There will be something for everyone. Sweet rolls and/or lunch will be available.

Friday, Aug. 14

s The Bella Vista Friends of the Library will host its fourth annual benefit Sock Hop at Riordan Hall. Attendees will be able to dance to the great music of the 1950s and 60s with live music by Rockin' Roads Band, featuring Gary Nelson, Kevin Walsh and Phil Kilmer. Everyone is encouraged to wear clothes from that era. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with dancing from 7 to 9 p.m. The cost is $10 a person, which includes root beer floats and popcorn. A cash bar and sodas will be available. The dance is open to all ages. Proceeds will be used to address the library's growing needs and services. Tickets may be purchased at the Bella Vista Public Library, 11 Dickens Place, beginning July 14. For more information, call 479-855-1753.
