Labor Day weekend is taking on a new spin with the Camo Classic. The Bella Vista Village Property Owners Association is hosting the 2015 Camo Classic golf tournament on Saturday, Sept. 5, at its Berksdale course.
The Camo Classic is a four-person scramble, which will allow members and guests the opportunity to show support for this great cause.
Forty dollars of each team's entry fee will go to the Folds of Honor Foundation. The foundation supports the families of fallen and injured United States soldiers.
For the ninth year, golfers in the area and around the country will have the opportunity to donate $1 or more to this cause. Each Bella Vista Village golf shop will provide a donation box for golfers to give back to those who have sacrificed for the country.
Last year, the event raised nearly $1,250.
Food from local restaurants will be available for golfers in the tournament. Courtyard by Marriot will providing breakfast and gourmet coffee. Gusano's Pizza is showing their support by providing pizza, and Johnny Carino's is providing sides and dessert.
Additionally, the POA will have a corresponding fundraising drive for veterans and their families. "Birdies for Vets" will take place during the Camo Classic. Four of the POA's golf professionals will play 18 holes of golf; people can sign up to donate a set amount for every birdie that the golf professionals make.
The golf pros are looking forward to the tournament and to making as many birdies as they can .
"With a large veteran population, this is a cause that is very near and dear to our hearts," Golf Operations Director Andy Mar said, adding that this tournament is always "a lot of fun".
New to the tournament this year are separate contests to be held on the golf course in conjunction with the Camo Classic tournament.
