Working together for a better BV

The City of Bella Vista and the Bella Vista Village Property Owners Association would like to thank all of you who attended our first joint "Town Hall" meeting on Tuesday evening, March 24. We appreciated your interest, comments and suggestions.

We also were fortunate to have Dana Davis with the Bentonville/Bella Vista Chamber of Commerce attend the meeting and provide us with a summary of the activities and recommendations of the Bella Vista Task Force, which is developing a vision for the future of our community.

A number of topics were discussed, including commercial development, marketing, public safety, the Sugar Creek water trail and streets maintenance. However, a consistent message that we heard from those in attendance was the urgent need to address the deteriorating, unsightly physical appearance of many homes and properties in our community.

There was discussion regarding the need for more prompt cleanup of the brush and tree trimming debris created by Carroll Electric Co. There is a need to more frequently pick up the trash along U.S. 71, especially near the Missouri border. There is also a need to raise awareness that dumping yard waste on POA common property and empty lots is not permitted and such material should be deposited at the stump dumps provided for this purpose.

In the past month, the City and Association have participated in meetings with local real estate representatives and property management companies to work with them to develop reasonable, effective ordinances to address many of these property maintenance issues.

We will include reminders in Association publications and on the Association Website to raise awareness and encourage the effort to clean up our community. This communitywide effort can easily start in individual neighborhoods and expand throughout the community. And it can start right now as we get out in the warmer weather to prepare our yards and gardens for spring and summer.

All of us benefit from a well-maintained, more pleasing appearance. Together we can make our community look its best.

Both the Association and the City are looking forward to working together to fix up, clean up and spruce up our community.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association
