Missionary to speak about kidnapping ordeal

Gracia Burnham knows what it is like to have life spin out of control.

While serving as missionaries in the Philippines, Gracia Burnham and her husband, Martin, were kidnapped by terrorists and spent the next 13 months as hostages in the Philippine jungle. Their captivity ended June 7, 2002, in a violent rescue that left Martin Burnham dead and Gracia Burnham wounded.

Their story of faith in the midst of terror and tragedy is known to millions, and now local residents can hear Gracia Burnham speak of her experiences when she comes to Heritage Baptist Church in Bella Vista on Sunday, July 27. Burnham is the author of The New York Times Best Seller, "In the Presence of My Enemies," and the popular new book, "To Fly Again." She also founded the Martin and Gracia Burnham Foundation.

The church will welcome Burnham at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary. Childcare is provided. There is no cost, but a love offering will be received.

Heritage Baptist Church is located at 501 Highlands Blvd.
