Group finalizing Branchwood recommendation

Members of the Joint Advisory Committee on Recreation spent their meeting July 14 fine-tuning a white paper about their recommendation for the Branchwood Golf Course.

The paper will be presented to the Property Owners Association Board of Directors, probably in August.

Committee members believe the nine-hole golf course, which has been closed since flooding damaged the cart path and irrigation system in August 2013, should become a walking or biking trail. But residents in the area should be part of any decision made by the board, according to the draft under discussion.

The golf committee already recommended the course not be reopened for golf because it is not well used.

At its regular monthly meeting last week, the board considered hiring a consultant to help determine the future of the course, but the directors tabled that plan until they could consider the recreation committee's white paper.

Former committee member Joan Glubczynski was recently appointed to the board of directors, and is now serving as a liaison to the recreation committee, but she completed the rough draft of the white paper anyway. Now, committee Chairman Ron Jones will coordinate a subcommittee to write the final draft of the paper.

A new member, Tony Byars, took his place on the committee as Glubczynski left, but there's still one vacancy waiting for a board appointment.

Last week, the committee met at Tanyard Creek and walked a portion of the trails there. Next month, at 3 p.m. Aug. 11, the group will meet at the Metfield Clubhouse.
