of the Ozarks

A Wednesday night class and meditation are held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. every Wednesday at Unity Church of the Ozarks.

The Rev. Edie Skalitsky will explore the theme, "In the Presence of Sages," on Sunday, Aug. 31. The monthly potluck will be held following the service.

The annual talent show, art show, raffle and silent auction will take place Saturday, Sept. 20.

Methodist

A prayer service is held at 5:30 p.m. every Wednesday in the chapel at the First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista. Junior and senior high students can participate in Youth Life at 7 p.m.

The Rev. Jaimie Alexander will bring the message "Good Fruit" from Matthew 12:33 and Genesis 2:15-17 on Sunday, Aug. 31. Traditional services are held at 8 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. with a contemporary service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday school classes for all ages are also held at 9:30. A nursery is provided.

Caregivers Support Group provides an essential support system for those who are primary caregivers of family or friends. The group meets at 9 a.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month in room 5.

Community Church

The Men's Study Group meets at 8 a.m. every Wednesday in the parlor at Bella Vista Community Church.

Parish nurses conduct blood pressure checks from 9 a.m. until noon Wednesdays in the nurses' office and between services on the last Sunday of each month in the parlor. There is no charge, and no appointment is necessary. This service is available to anyone in the community.

Prayer Fellowship meets every Wednesday morning at 9:15 in the conference room.

Wednesday Night Family Activities start at 6 p.m. with pizza, followed at 6:30 p.m. by Prayers to My King Bible study for all ages. A nursery is provided.

Hope Happens Here cancer support group will meet at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, in the parlor.

The Prostate Cancer and Diabetes support groups will not meet in August.

The Rev. Eric Sloter will preach at both the 8:30 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. services Sunday, Aug. 31. His sermon topic will be "Prodigals All" from Luke 15:1-32. The chapel is open for prayer from 8 until 11:30 a.m. Children's Teaching Time for ages 4-12 is offered during the 10:15 a.m. service. The adult Sunday school class is taking a break this month.

St. Bernard Catholic Church

Crazy canasta will be played the first Monday of each month, Oct. 6 through May 4, at St. Bernard Catholic Church of Bella Vista. A social time will be at 6 p.m. with snacks provided. Play begins at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $1 per person each night. Everyone is welcome.

Parish food pantry distributions are made through the parish office during regular office hours, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Each fall, thousands of people throughout the world gather at community parishes to study and discuss the teachings of Jesus Christ. St. Bernard calls its sessions "The Journey of Faith." The first meeting will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 10 in the parish hall and will provide an opportunity for people from all walks of life to come and see if this is something they would like to participate in. Highlands Church

Dates for Walk to Emmaus weekends this fall are Sept. 26-28 for women and Oct. 3-5 for men. Anyone who would like more information should contact the church office.

A new Bible study, "Walking By Faith: Lessons Learned in the Dark" by Jennifer Rothschild, will begin Sept. 9. This six-week study will be offered at two different times -- from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. or 10:45 a.m. Wednesday.

A new eight-week Disciple Bible study, "The Book of Romans," will be offered Tuesdays, Sept. 23 through Nov. 11, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

A new Bible study, "Mere Christianity," by C.S. Lewis will take place Thursdays, Oct. 9 through Nov. 20, at 4:30 p.m.

Highland Christian (Disciples of Christ)

The Prayer Group will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Highland Christian Church. Choir rehearsal will be at 4 p.m.

Bella Vista Christian

Life Groups are now forming for the new season. These small groups are held in homes around Bella Vista and at Bella Vista Christian Church. For more information, check the church website, www.bellavistachristian.com.

The Cambodia Mission Trip team will host a movie night fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, in the worship center. The movie is a Rapha House Production. Childcare is provided. Tickets to the movie are free, but donations will be accepted. Refreshments will also be available.

"On the Move" Ministry Fair will be held the morning of Sunday, Sept. 7. This is an opportunity to meet the leaders of the different ministries and find the area that best fits one's own gifts and passions.

Sunday services are held at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. KidTown is offered at both times for children from infants through fifth grade, and Radiate Students for grades 6-12 meets at 10:45 a.m.

Ladies' Tuesday morning Bible study will resume at 9 a.m. Sept. 9. This season's topic will be "The Life of the Holy Spirit" from Galatians chapter 5.

Men's Ministry will host "33" volume 2 at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9. The men's study meets Tuesdays at the church. Men of all ages are welcome.

The northwest Arkansas class of Bible Study Fellowship will offer satellite discussion groups at Bella Vista Christian starting Sept. 11. The study this year is "The Life of Moses" and will meet Thursday mornings from 9 to 10:35 a.m. Each group will have a trained BSF leader to facilitate discussion of weekly questions and then assemble together for lecture through either the audio mobile lecture or DVD. All satellite members may attend BSF seminars at the Lowell location. The preschool program will be offered only at the Lowell location.

Village Baptist

Bella Vista Lutheran

The Friendly Stitchers will meet at 9 a.m. Aug. 28 at Bella Vista Lutheran Church.

Shepherd's Food pantry is open every Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. They are in need of cereal at this time as well as peanut butter and jelly. In June of this year, 503 people were served by the pantry. In July, the number increased to 672 people from 170 families. A shopping cart for donations is in the fellowship hall entry and a container is in the church narthex.

The family life ministry team is involved in stocking closets for teachers of grades 3-5 in the Gravette School District to spare the teachers' use of personal funds to purchase paper, pencils, markers and other items. Large boxes are located in the church narthex for collections, and contributions are welcome prior to delivery in late August.

On Tuesday, Sept. 2, a special worship service will be held for those unable to attend a regular service. A light lunch will be served afterward. Anyone in need of transportation for this service may contact the church office at 479-855-0272.

Presbyterian Church

The Chancel Choir will resume practice at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at the Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista. The Bell and Chime Choir will not begin practice until Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 5:45 p.m. With the staggered times for each group on Wednesdays, members can participate in both choirs if they choose. New members are always welcome.

The Missions Committee is collecting personal care items for the Northwest Arkansas Children's Shelter to be given to the children as they leave the facility. A list of items needed for the packets and a donation box are available in the connector hallway. Monetary contributions would also be appreciated to help purchase supplies.

An exercise class meets from 8 to 8:45 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the fellowship hall. It is free of charge and open to the community.

Evangelical Free

Oasis Food Pantry will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Village Bible Evangelical Free Church.

Also Wednesday, the Building Committee will meet at 4 p.m. The family potluck dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the family praise and prayer fellowship plus children's and youth activities at 6:20 p.m. Worship Team practice will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The monthly Church Family Breakfast will be held at Papa Mike's at Kingsdale in Bella Vista at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28.

Ron Morris will lead the Bible study on 1 Peter at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the church. This study is open to anyone who wishes to attend.

Sunday school classes will be available for all ages at 9 a.m. Aug. 31, followed by the 10 a.m. worship service. The Rev. Mark Voll will continue his preaching series on "Truth and Consequences." The sermon is titled "Drawing People to God's Grace." An infant nursery and children's church will be available during the service.

The Rev. Ron Morris will lead the men's Bible study on Romans at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2. The ladies' KniTTogether ministry and White Cross EFCA Women's Mission ministry also meet at 7.

Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 16, a new nine-week ladies' Bible study by Dee Brestin, titled "Ecclesiastes, a Woman of Contentment: Insights into Life's Sorrows and Trials," will meet at 9 a.m. Joanne Morris will lead the study.

Sept. 7 has been designated "God's Work -- Our Hand" Sunday. Members are encouraged to wear their United Lutheran T-shirt and bring nonperishable items for Helping Hands, Oaks Indian Mission and others. In addition, the Piecemakers will be quilting in Luther Hall from 1 to 3 p.m. All are welcome.
