Residents share in cooperative ownership at The Plaza

Located in Bella Vista, The Plaza is an independent-living senior cooperative for people ages 55 and older, offering apartments in nine floor plans and sizes of 700 to 2,200 square feet.

Cable television and all utilities are included in the monthly fee. Pets are allowed and enjoyed by residents.

Residents buy a share in the cooperative, which is owned by its resident shareholders. Members set monthly fees through the resident board of directors, and residents decide what services are brought into the community. Because the cooperative takes care of maintaining the building and grounds, residents don't have to worry about upkeep.

If a member of the cooperative decides to move, that resident's share is resold, and part of the investment is returned with limited appreciation. This means that buying into the cooperative is an investment, not a fee.

In addition to upscale apartments, which have their own laundry facilities and carports, The Plaza has common areas. Residents enjoy a spacious lounge, gathering areas, a woodworking and craft shop, a dining and activity area, a fitness center, a library and a computer room.

An optional meal is served in the dining room each day.

People who live in The Plaza enjoy meeting friends. Mickie Victor and Pete Hieronimus had known each other for years but have become even better friends as residents of The Plaza.

"We interact in innumerable ways and continually make new friends as we dine together on food produced by our superb cooks," Victor said.
