School, village to introduce students to golf

Cooper Elementary School is helping make future golfers.

The school is teaming with SNAG Golf and the Bella Vista Village Property Owners Association to offer a three-week golf program to students.

The SNAG -- Starting New at Golf -- system contains age-appropriate equipment and programming to effectively teach the game to people of all ages and skill levels, according to the program's website -- www.snaggolf.com.

The school will begin teaching golf fundamentals this week to all fourth-graders during physical education classes. The SNAG equipment, which was purchased by The First Tee of NWA and will stay at Cooper Elementary School to be used in the future, will be used during the first week of training.

The second week of instruction, which is taught by professionals at Bella Vista Village's Tanyard Creek Practice Center, includes real golfing equipment. The third and final week allows students to experience the game of golf as they play three to four holes on the Brittany Golf Course.

Another organization donated golf shoes to be sold, and all money raised went toward purchasing tees and balls for students to use while playing at the Brittany Golf Course.

Andy Mar, POA Golf Operations manager, thinks junior golf programs, such as those offered through local elementary schools, SNAG and The First Tee, are essential to the future of golf.

"These programs are introducing golf to a new generation and a new clientele for Bella Vista Village," Mar said.
