Recycling center/AARP awards grants

The Bella Vista Recycling Center/AARP Chapter 109 has awarded several checks to several organizations that have completed the volunteer hours needed to fulfill the requirements of matching grants.

Organizations that have received funds include, Bella Vista Lions' Club, $1,000; Bella Vista Animal Shelter, $1,500; Souls Harbor in Rogers, $1,200; Military Officers Association, $2,000; Bella Vista Women's Chorus $1,000; Oasis of NWA $4,500; and Hanna House in Rogers, $963.

Checks are available at the regular AARP meetings, which are held at 4 p.m. on the first Friday of the even months at the First Presbyterian Church on Arkansas 279. There is a program followed by the business meeting. The June meeting will feature the Community Band in concert on June 6, 2014.

To become a member of the local AARP, a person needs a current national membership and pay dues of $1.

These organizations have applied for a matching grant, got approval and worked the required hours to earn these funds.

Any 501C organization in the area may apply for a grant for their organization. The requirements are to apply, go through the approval process and then work off the required hours to fulfill the grant.

Tours can be arranged at the Recycle Center for those interested in seeing our operation. Volunteers are always needed and it can benefit both the organization as well as the environment while earning funds for the selected organization.

The center also has people available to speak to organizations or present a program on the center's efforts. Either contact the Recycle Center or Marion Korns, Grants Review, 855-3302, for more information.
