Local blood donors inducted into Hall of Fame

Mary Middleton and Rex Peters of Bella Vista are among 41 area residents being recognized as the newest inductees into the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks Hall of Fame.

These 2013 honorees bring the total number to 404 since the hall was established in 2005, according to a news release from the center.

A person may be selected to the Hall of Fame once he or she has surpassed the 20-gallon donation mark. Other honorees represent their service to the organization as a volunteer, board member or benefactor, the release states.

“Blood donors that commit themselves to a lifetime of giving know that they are responsible for affecting thousands of lives,” said Don Thomson, CBCO executive director.

“They give with no expectation of recognition, but they certainly deserve to be recognized. I congratulate these outstanding advocates for the blood program here in the Ozarks,” he added.

It takes 250 donations each day to meet patient needs at 38 area hospitals that rely solely on products from CBCO donors.
