Ruby Bureva Duncan

Ruby Bureva Duncan, 59, of Hiwasse, Ark., died Feb. 11, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Rogers, Ark., with her husband by her side, after a long battle with lung cancer.

She was born Oct. 25, 1961, the daughter of Jack and Rebecca Saxon of Rogers, Ark.

She attended school in Rogers, worked at Walmart, followed by a job she thoroughly enjoyed as a drafter for Joseph Looney & Associates. She enjoyed spending time in her garden growing beautiful flowers; she won several blue ribbons at the Benton County Fair. She also enjoyed traveling and going to the river to float for hours at a time.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack, and Jane Saxon.

She is survived by her husband, Jay Duncan of the home; sisters, April Saxon of Severn, Md., Kristy Saxon of Rogers; brother, Frank (Althea) of Bella Vista; daughters, Amber (Zachary) Smith of Junction City, Kan., Micah Rakes (fiance Jeremy Broyles) of Tahlequah, Okla.; son, Benjamin Rakes of Rogers; and four grandchildren.

Richard Paul Johnson

Richard (Dick) Paul Johnson, 80, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Feb. 10, 2021, after a brief illness.

He was born Nov. 16, 1940, in Rochester, Minn., and moved to Waukesha, Wis., as a teenager where he graduated from Catholic Memorial High School. He married Eva (Neverman) in 1963. He worked and retired from the Wisconsin Telephone Company. After retirement, he moved to Bella Vista, where he continued to golf, to play cards, and perfected his wood carving skills. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, where he washed many (many, many) dishes following the Men's Club breakfasts and other church functions.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Matilda Johnson; and his brother, Steve.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Eva of Bella Vista; his children, Michael (Sue) Johnson of Wales, Wis., Kathy Novocin (Dan) of Humble, Texas, Rachel Johnson of Waukesha; three grandchildren; and his siblings, Gail (Lee) Beer of Ft. Morgan, Colo., David (Sheila) Johnson of Madison, Wis.

A Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, followed by Mass of the Resurrection at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to St. Bernard Catholic Church.

Jo Lee Oxford

Jo Lee Oxford, 81, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021, at a local skilled care facility.

She was born July 11, 1939, in Neodesha, Kan., the daughter of Maxine Pyeatt and Joseph Rankin. In 1956 she graduated from Pawhuska (Okla.) High School. She received her bachelor of science degree from Oklahoma State University and earned her master's degree in counseling at Kansas State University.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert Oxford, whom she married in 1993; two sons, Morey H. Oxford (Deborah) of Colorado Springs, Colo., Michael L. Oxford (Regina) of Lawrence, Kan.; one sister, Terri Elizabeth Murphy (William) of Tulsa, Okla.; and three grandchildren.

She will be inurned at National Cemetery located in Fayetteville.

Eugene Giobney Wood

Eugene "Gene" Gibney Wood, 91, of Bella Vista died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021, in Rogers at House of Three.

He was born Dec. 12, 1929, in Lafayette County, Mo., the son of Amanda Mae Morrison and Morris Grey Wood.

He served in the U.S. Army National Guard for many years. He enjoyed fishing. He was an engineer for over 30 years with Bendix Corporation. He moved to the northwest Arkansas area in 1983 from Pleasant Hill, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sabra Jackson; and one sister, Anna Marie Slusher.

Surviving are his wife, Ann Wood, whom he married June 25, 1955; two sons, Daryl Wood (Darleen) of Ohio, David Wood of Bartlesville, Okla.; and four grandchildren.

A private family service is being planned.
