A group goes to the opera. The members of the party sit in the same box. One of them is there hoping to be seen by his fellow box holders. Another goes because he thinks opera improves his general culture. Another is present in order to be able to discuss the production at a forthcoming dinner party, and another feels the need of relaxation and thinks music will be good for her health.
But one member of the group goes solely to enjoy the music. She has no secondary motive. She forgets herself; she enters into the spirit of the opera; she allows herself to fall in love with the music. She gave herself to the opera whole-mindedly and thereby appreciated it fully.
Could the same be true of church and those who attend? Sadly, I think there are those who come for other reasons than to immerse themselves in the presence of a loving God. Do not forget why church is there for you. It is to allow yourself to be in God's loving, forgiving, patient, presence. And to help you grow through your Christian journey.
God bless and be safe,
