The third annual Six in Sixty highway cleanup event, which sees volunteers picking up litter alongside the six miles of U.S. Highway 71 that run through Bella Vista, is scheduled for Saturday, March 28, at 10 a.m.

Tim Pschierer, the proprietor of Green Ninja Taxi, is helping to organize the event through Positively Bella Vista, a Facebook group-based volunteer group. Volunteers will meet that Saturday at Allen's grocery store parking lot, he explained, and Java Dudes will provide coffee.

Everyone will pick their highway sections to work, pick up their equipment and get to work before meeting back up for burgers and hotdogs, he said.

The group will provide trash bags, high visibility vests, shirts, and lunch after the fact, but volunteers should bring boots, grabbers, repellent, gloves, hats and other supplies they need, Pschierer said.

Last year had about 110 volunteers, he said, and he's expecting a roughly 15% increase in turnout -- which he hopes will help because litter seems to have increased as well.

"The amount of garbage is really crazy. I thought it was bad last year around this time," he said.

Anyone interested in volunteering can find the event page on Facebook or contact Pschierer at 479-531-9147.

Pschierer said the event puts people to work, but it's a good time and a great chance to improve the city.

"It seems like the interest is out there," he said. "It's a fun event."
