Rogene (Rog) Carey Arney

Rogene Carey Arney ("Rog"), 90, of Bella Vista, Ark., died peacefully Dec. 6, 2020, at Highlands Nursing Home, where he lived for the last year with his wife, Elaine (Griffith) Arney.

He was born July 7, 1930, in Clemons, Iowa, to Carey and Florence (Brackney) Arney. He was in the audiovisual sales industry for years and traveled many miles across Iowa for his customers. He went to Iowa State University and was an avid Cyclone fan. He was an athlete and lettered in baseball. He enjoyed golf and spent many years on the courses of Bella Vista with his wife, family and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Don from San Diego, Calif.; and his sister, Pat from San Luis Obispo, Calif.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elaine; his sons, Jeff (Joanie), James (Carol); daughter, Jennifer LaPerre; four grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Bruce Griffith (Sandy).

Betty L. Brink

Betty L. Brink was born March 25, 1920, in Lawrence, Kan. She died Dec. 8, 2020, in Bella Vista, Ark.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy (Ernie) Grant of Bella Vista; sons, Ron (Wanda) of Colorado, Gary (Peggy) of Colorado and Bob (Marilyn) of Kansas; and four granddaughters.

A celebration of life well lived will be held in 2021.

Sharon Carter

Sharon Carter, 76, of Bella Vista died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020. She was born August 3, 1944, in Newkirk, Okla., to Alvin and Dessie Bryant.

She moved to Northwest Arkansas in 1999 from Illinois. She was a hard worker and was an active member of the Democratic Party of Benton County. She enjoyed gardening and landscaping, was very practical in everything she did and was very devoted to caring for her sister.

Sharon is survived by her two sons, Donald Carter (Heidi) of Rock Island, Ill., Alan Carter of Bella Vista; one daughter, Lara Ames (Aaron) of Neosho, Mo.; two sisters, Beatrice Eichmann of Conway, Ark., Irene Bryant of Bentonville, Ark; four grandchildren, Keith Bryant, Austin Carter, Ryan Ames, Christopher Ames; and other nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Dessie.

Marylyn H. Gailliot

Marylyn H. Gailliot, 96, died Nov. 27, 2020.

She was born Sept. 21, 1924, in Gravette, Ark., to Paul Dorsett and Ruth Harrington Dorsett. She married Charles (Chuck) Gailliot June 23, 1946, in Bentonville. They moved to Bella Vista in 1983. She retired from The Empire District Electric Company in 1971. She was a member of the Women's 18-Hole Golf Association, the Sophisticated Ladies Plus Four tap dancing group and was a lifetime charter member of the Bella Vista Sportsmen's Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a twin brother; and her husband.

She is survived by one nephew, Greg Dorsett and his family, of Michigan.

No services are planned.

Charles Edmond Hill

Charles (Charley) Edmond Hill, 87, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Friday, Dec. 11, 2020.

He was born Nov. 4, 1933, in Kansas City, Kan., to Ralph and Hazel Hill. He graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1952 and Findley Engineering College with an electrical engineering degree in 1954. He married Florence on July 14, 1954, in London Heights Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1957. He worked for Public Service Co. of Oklahoma for over 39 years. He moved to Bella Vista in 1995, where he gave full reign to his golf passion. He loved cars, driving, football, woodworking, carving, camping, boating and fishing. He was a member of the Bella Vista Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Florence (Frost) Hill of the home; three children, Debbie Ray of Oklahoma City, Okla., Ken Hill (Patty) of Sand Springs, Okla., Mark Hill of Oklahoma City; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020, at the Bella Vista Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Bella Vista Cemetery.

Patrick Howard McGuire

Patrick Howard McGuire, 83, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Friday, Nov. 6, 2020, at Circle of Life Hospice. He died of Parkinson's and covid-19.

He was an Eagle Scout and a natural athlete. He enlisted in the Air Force, serving for four years, straight out of high school. He graduated from OSU and UCO with degrees in education and guidance counseling. He taught, coached and was a counselor in the Del City/MWC and Emond schools. He was director of narcotics and drug education for the Oklahoma Dept. of Education for seven years.

Survivors are his wife of 48 years, Elaine Wert McGuire of Bella Vista; son, Tim; daughter, Kelli; seven grandchildren; brother, Doug; and half-sister, Patti Lynn.

There will be two memorials. Due to covid-19 spikes, the Bella Vista services will be held in the spring. The Oklahoma service will be held at a later date.

He will be buried in the National Cemetery in Fayetteville, Ark.

Kaye B. Pearce

Kaye B. Pearce passed on December 6, 2020, at his home in Bella Vista, Arkansas, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on May 9, 1935, in Miltonvale, Kansas, the son of Bertice and Meta Pearce. He graduated from Central High School and Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas. He served for 13 years in the Army National Guard.

He dedicated his career of 39 years to the kids of Kansas as a teacher, athletic director, football, track, and basketball coach and as a member of the Kansas State High School Activities Association. He served the Association as Administrative Assistant, Director and retired as Executive Director in 1996. Other professional positions included: NFHS Football Rules Committee for 20 years, serving as the chair the last four years; two terms on the NFHS Track & Field Rules Committee; Board of Directors for the Sunflower State Games; and Kansas Wesleyan University (Salina, Kan.) Board of Trustees. For many years following his retirement, he served as the KSHSAA State Track and Field Meet referee.

Kaye was inducted into the Salina Central High School Hall of Fame (Coach), the Kansas Wesleyan University Hall of Fame (Football, Basketball) and the Kansas State High School Activities Association Hall of Fame (Administrator).

Kaye stood for sportsmanship, fairness and a level playing field for everyone. He gave generously of his time, going the extra mile to assure success. He had a reputation as an excellent leader who truly cared about his profession, treating everyone with respect, having an open-door policy, listening to all problems and making firm but fair decisions. He had enormous respect for the officials and referees. The many coaches, players, officials and administrators he met and worked with were a source of enjoyment and treasured friendships over the decades.

He loved serving the Lord at First Presbyterian Church in Salina, Kansas; the University United Methodist Church of Topeka, Kansas; and the Bella Vista Community Church in Arkansas. Kaye served as a Sunday school teacher, head usher, and on the church Foundation Boards.

He liked to tell people that on his 51st birthday he got a wife, four kids and four grandkids when he married Barbara Bauer in 1986 in Versailles, Missouri. It was there that they met on the golf course. He had many names and titles, but his favorite was Paw Paw K. He loved camping, swimming, woodworking and golf. He was very proud of his two holes in one. He loved watching sports on tv, reading, hearing his daughters sing and playing games with the kids. He enjoyed traveling, making new friends, visiting old friends, hearing from former students, athletes, coaches, officials and classmates.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bertice and Meta Pearce of Salina, Kansas; his sister, Colleen and husband Keith Mueller of Versailles, Missouri; and his son and golf buddy, Bret Bauer of Willard, Missouri.

Kaye is survived by his wife Barbara Pearce; their daughters, Bobbi and husband Gray Birdsong, Jefferson City, Missouri, Beth Bauer, Barrie and husband Kent Bales all of Bella Vista, Arkansas; and daughter-in-law, Dana Mallory, Battlefield, Missouri.

Grandchildren: Lindsey, Nicholas, Oliver, Michael and Stacey. Great-Grandchildren: Haley, Holden, Alexxis, Austin, Andrew and William.

Sisters-in-law: Susan and husband Paul White; Kathy and husband Kenneth Coffman all of Versailles, Missouri; He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Kaye had a private cremation. Memorials may be made to Kansas Wesleyan University Athletic Department in Salina, Kansas, or to the Music Department at Bella Vista Community Church of Bella Vista, Arkansas.

Anita Mary Longsdorf Smith

Anita Mary Longsdorf Smith, 94, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2020.

She was born Oct. 26, 1926, in Kansas City, Mo., to Homer and Iris Longsdorf. She graduated from Northeast High School in 1943 and went to Washington, D.C., to work. She returned home in 1945 and began a 40-year career as an administrative secretary in flight crew training at TWA. She enjoyed traveling, her pets, books, giving great dinner parties and sharing her memories with her "Electric Letters."

She was preceded in death by her husband, R.K. Smith.

James A White

James A. White, 86, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020.

He was born Jan. 20, 1934, to Harry and Ruth White in Coldwater, Kan. He graduated from Coldwater High School in 1952 and then served two years in the U.S. Army. In 1959 he married Harriet Little from Greensburg. They farmed and ranched in Comanche County, Kan., until he became involved in the poultry industry. He served on the board of directors of the Iowa Poultry Assoc. for six years, serving as president in 1995. He was a member of Village Bible Church. His enjoyment was his family and the trips they took together.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Harriet White; daughters, Sherrel and Mike Melin of Joplin, Mo., Sharon Stuart of Anniston, Ala.; two granddaughters; and one sister, Ann Ward.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
