Bella Vista Civil War Roundtable

The next Bella Vista Civil War Roundtable will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, featuring Susan Young speaking on "Sorrow, Trouble and Worry: Stories from the Ozark Home Front During the Civil War." Susan is the outreach coordinator at the Shiloh Museum in Springdale, a position she has held since 1994. She is a lifelong resident of Fayetteville and a fifth-generation Ozarker. The public is welcome and admission is free.

Special Exhibits

With the focus on the Civil War that the Roundtable meetings have brought, we have arranged for a special exhibit that will be in place by Sept. 5 of an antiquarian collection of Civil War books. All of these books were published between 1861 and 1900. Included is an 1887 edition of the classic Hardtack and Coffee by John D. Billings. The two volume Personal Memoirs of U.S. Grant (1885) will also be on display, as well as Pictorial National Records (2 volumes, 1865), and many more.

Volunteers Needed for October Open House

The museum's annual Open House will be held on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 27, from 2 to 5 p.m. This year we are including our Settler's Cabin in the Open House activities, so we expect a big turnout and that means we need more volunteers to help. If you are interested, please contact Jill Werner at 479-721-3122 or Xyta Lucas at 479-876-6118, and plan to come to our volunteers' meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at the museum to find out how you can help at our Open House.

Private tours of the museum and programs about the history of Bella Vista are available outside of normal open hours for church groups, students, civic clubs, businesses, etc. To arrange for an event, please leave a message at the museum at 479-855-2335, or call Xyta Lucas at 479-876-6118.
