Bella Vista Civil War Roundtable

The next Civil War Roundtable will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, when Jeff Patrick will be the speaker. His talk is titled "One by One the Boys Pass Away: The Hospital Diary of William Bluffton Miller." In 1862, Miller joined the Union war effort as a member of the 75th Indiana Volunteer infantry. He served as a hospital steward early the following year in Gallatin, Tenn., and later that year was seriously wounded at the Battle of Chickamauga, Ga. Using excerpts from Miller's diary, Patrick will relate Miller's experiences both as a caregiver and a patient. Please join us, free admission.

Annual Open House

Be sure to mark Sunday, Oct. 27, on your calendar for our annual open house at the museum, starting at 2 p.m. This year we will also include the grand opening of our historic Settler's Cabin. The open house will include musical entertainment, free food and lots of door prizes. Volunteers who want to help with the afternoon's events are welcome to come to our meeting for volunteers the previous Sunday afternoon, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m., at the museum.

Wood Sculptures on Display

We were happy to receive last year some of the wood sculptures that artist Paul Parish, the man who saved the Settler's Cabin from being demolished in 1974 and rebuilt it in his backyard as an art gallery, had created over the years. We now have them on display in the Cooper Room at the museum. We also recently discovered that one of his sculptures has hung in the lobby of the Kingsdale Golf Pro Shop since 1983. It is a fun carving that features the Bella Vista Men's 9-hole golf group.

Gift Shop

With holiday displays already showing up in area stores, it's not too early to start thinking about your holiday shopping. We have lots of merchandise that make for great gifts. Also, our locally-produced honey from hives in Benton County continues to be one of our top sellers.
