The Spanker Creek Bridge is expected to be open after an 11:30 a.m. ribbon cutting scheduled for Monday, May 20.

The new bridge is approximately 27 feet longer than the previous bridge. It's also taller and more resistant to flooding.

County officials have stated that the $943,942.56 bridge, which came in under the budgeted $1,022,704, was rebuilt because the old bridge could not handle the increasing flow from heavy rains and needed regular repairs after being washed out multiple times.

Construction began in early December and has stayed close to schedule. Initial projections suggested the bridge would be complete by mid-May.

The nearby intersection of Spanker Road, Benton County Road 40 and Plentywood Road is expected to see adjustments to improve visibility and safety at the intersection.
