Book celebrates Sam Walton's 100th birthday

Staff Reports

As Walmart shareholders gathered in Northwest Arkansas recently, residents can celebrate Sam Walton's legacy with a new children's book, Young Sam Walton, from Tulsa-based publisher, Yorkshire Publishing.

The book was recently released to celebrate what would have been Walton's 100th birthday and shares with readers the values upon which Walton built the globe-spanning Walmart organization.

Walton's story is told through vivid images reminiscent of Norman Rockwell's iconic "Saturday Evening Post" paintings, from the Walton homestead to the famous story of Sam Walton's rescue of a neighborhood friend from drowning. Extensive research was conducted, including at the Walmart Museum in Bentonville.

Written by a Rogers Public Schools educator, Brenda Turner, "Young Sam Walton" includes Sam's 10 business principles that have been written for a young generation. Copies are available at the Walmart Museum, Rogers Barnes and Noble store, and online from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Jet.
