2016 was another good year for bluebird fledglings, the Bella Vista Bluebird Society announced.

Here are the numbers for the trail volunteers:

• Eastern bluebirds, 1,601 (down 132 from 2015)

• Tree swallows, 664 (up 67 from 2015)

• Carolina chickadees, 86 (up 5 from 2015)

• House wrens, 8 (down 23 from 2015)

• Tufted titmice, 7 (down 3 from 2015)

That totals 2,366.

The total bluebird fledgling number is 44,105 since 1980.

Adding to the BVBBS trails, a total of 119 bluebirds fledged in volunteer boxes. On top of that, 533 fledges were reported in neighborhood boxes. The 533 call-ins from neighbors is up 274 over 2015.

Thanks to Bella Vista Bluebird enthusiasts for that, society members said.

The total bluebird count from the BVBBS trails, volunteer boxes, and neighborhood call-ins is 2,253, up by 168 over 2015.
