Robert “Bob” Carte, 82, of Bella Vista, died Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. He was born Jan. 30, 1927, in Henryetta, Okla., to William Leo Carte and Flossie Lawrence Carte.

He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS South Dakota during World War II. During the Korean War he joined the United States Air Force and served in Germany working in a hospital.

He was a 32nd-degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite Lodge 1155 in Pasadena, Texas.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Martin Carte; sons Robert Carte II and wife Jackie of Muskogee, Okla., Philip Carte and wife Casey of Boerne, Texas; daughter Susan Eiler and husband Steve of Bella Vista; four grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, at Stockdale FuneralChapel in Rogers, with the Rev. Mark Lindstrom and the Rev. Lynn Brown officiating.

Burial will take place at a later date in Greenlawn Cemetery in Checotah, Okla.

Memorials may be made in honor of Bob Carte to Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, AR 72762.

Charles

Ernest Damonte

Charles Ernest Damonte, 83, of Bella Vista, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at Northwest Medical Center of Benton County in Bentonville. He was born on Feb. 8, 1926, in Cumberland, British Columbia, Canada, to Joseph Damonte, Jr. and Janet Hazel Whyte Damonte.

He was raised and educated in California. He served in U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. After the war, he attended San FranciscoState College.

He retired from General Motors in 1989.

Charles married Shirley Johnston on June 19, 1967, in Las Vegas, Nev. They moved to Bella Vista from Oakland, Calif., in 1994. He was president of the Bella Vista Men’s 9-Hole Golf in 1998, and was a starter at the Bella Vista Country Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Roy Damonte

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Damonte of Bella Vista; son James Charles Damonte and wife, Mary of Stanford, Conn.; daughter Laura Jan Damonte of Walnut Creek, Calif.; step-son Dennis Michael Calderon of Hayward, Calif.; brother-in-law Ronald Johnston of Bella Vista; sisters-in-law, Penny Laney and husband, Don of Lee’s Summit, Mo. and Mary Damonte of Washington; grandchildren Jimmy Anthony Damonte and wife, Elexis, Kari, Steve and Kristin; and five great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth

“Cricket” Marts

Elizabeth “Cricket” Marts, age 83, of Bentonville, died Jan. 6, 2010. She was born in Paris, Ark., Oct. 15, 1926, to the late Pete and Golda (Friar) Carter. She was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church in Rogers.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Beth Kauffman and husband Robert of Rogers; grandchildren, Lexi Owen and husband Matt of Bella Vista, Blake Marts of Fayetteville; and greatgrandchildren, Hunter and Lily Owen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Marts, who died in 1990, a daughter, Linn Anne Marts; and sons Robert and Michael Marts.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. onWednesday, Jan. 13, in the Chapel of Callison-Lough Funeral Home, Rogers, officiated by Chaplain Paul Woodhouse.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Alzheimer’s Arkansas.

Cremation arrangements are by Callison-Lough Funeral Home in downtown Rogers.

Bill Gene Rankin

ROCKAWAY BEACH, Iowa - Bill Gene Rankin, 48, of Rockaway Beach died Jan. 4, 2010, at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. He was born Dec. 9, 1961, in Gravette to James Terry Rankin and Vera Beth Calkins. He was a sales manager for Time Shares Inc.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Rankin of Rockaway Beach; two sons, Justin and Billy Rankin of Canada; one daughter, Jessica Lee Rankin of Canada; his parents of Gentry; four brothers, including Tommy Calkins of Gentry and Randy Bryson of Decatur; five sisters, Rhonda Calkins of Bella Vista, Valerie Ratlift of Bentonville, Tonja Tag of Gentry, Taria Hannold of Gentry and Beverly Harris of Decatur.

Services were Dec. 10 at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in SiloamSprings.

Burial was at the Decatur Cemetery in Decatur.

Roy Hardin Smith

Roy Hardin Smith, 94, of Bella Vista, died at his home on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010. He was born on April 19, 1915, in Clifton, Ariz., to Hardin Smith and Pearl (Rae) Smith.

Roy was raised and educated in Arizona. He graduated from Arizona State College in Tempe.

He completed his Masters Degree at Northern Arizona State College in Flagstaff.

Roy taught high school Industrial Arts and coached at Flagstaff High School.

He served in the U. S. Navy as an aviator during World War II.

Roy married Margaret Caroline Schultze on March 3, 1943, in Globe, Ariz.

Following his retirement, they moved to Bella Vista in 1985. He enjoyed golfing and fishing. He was a member of the American Legion and the Flagstaff Elks Club.

Roy is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margaret of Bella Vista.
