A groundbreaking ceremony for the city's new trail addition has been scheduled this Friday, Sept. 14, at the Lake Avalon Beach, followed by a gathering at the BV Bar and Grill at 98 Clubhouse Drive.

City and POA officials, trail designers and builders, members of the Walton Family Foundation and trail enthusiasts are all expected to be present.

City communications manager Cassi Lapp said this should be a great chance for members of the general public to get their questions answered about the approximately 50-mile trail network in the central portion of the city.

The proposed network stretches from the north and south borders of the city and includes 11 tunnels under streets -- something that is expected to be the network's signature feature.

It is currently estimated the system will take between 12 and 14 months to complete.
