Wishing Spring Gallery hosted a Christmas bazaar last Saturday.

Dustie Meads, who had a table at the bazaar, explained that it was primarily to give people an opportunity for holiday shopping and to promote the gallery, which uses its earnings to provide grants for arts education in the area.

"It was a cooperative effort, just like the gallery is a co-op," she said.

The exhibitors at the bazaar all have goods for sale at the gallery, she explained, and it was open to any exhibitor.

Meads had a table with decorated driftwood, adorned with reds and greens and other holiday decor.

Further down was Ruth Klotz, who said she's been painting since 1972 and she's been in Wishing Spring Gallery since 1998. She had an array of ornaments and magnolia leaves painted with cardinals, bluebirds and other avian life.

Klotz said she sticks with birds on the advice of her brother-in-law, who suggested she find a niche and stay with it.

"It worked," she said, noting that she's become known for her bird paintings.

One shopper, Sherry Eales, of Amarillo, Texas, was visiting her mother-in-law in Bella Vista.

She came to the bazaar to shop, she explained, and was especially impressed with Klotz's work, as well as the stained glass on display in the gallery.

"Everybody's so creative," she said.
