Golf course closing not for POA board to decide

Berksdale Golf Course Closing

I have been a resident of Bella Vista for 37 years and have been a strong supporter of the Property Owners Association and its boards.

The closing of the Berksdale course is not a good or reasonable decision by the POA board. It may be legal under the present covenants, but it is morally irresponsible. Berksdale is a very important asset to those of us who are property owners.

We should have a say in this decision. It should be voted upon by all property owners in a formal election.

If this decision by the POA board is allowed to take effect, it would establish a precedent of unlimited impact on our village. For example, in the future, the dam on Loch Lomond could need major repairs that would be very expensive. The board could agree that it was too costly and decide by their vote to drain the lake permanently. The impact of closing Berksdale is similar.

The POA has done a good job over the years of maintaining our physical and environmental assets. That is its job. Its job is not to eliminate or destroy properties owned by the residents and members.

This decision should be reversed and put to a vote at the earliest possible time.
