Thomas Bernard Moore Jr.

Thomas Bernard "Tom" Moore Jr., of Keller, Texas, died on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at the age of 101.

Tom was born on January 8, 1917, in Dallas, Texas. He joined the Army Air Corps in November 1940 and served until October 1945. He married Barbara "Bobby" Main in November 1942. They welcomed their first child, Thomas C. Moore, in August 1945.

After leaving the Army, Tom worked for American Airlines, first in Fort Worth, Texas, and then in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Their second child, Susan Moore Whittle, was born in 1954.

Tom retired from American Airlines in 1980, and he and Bobby moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas. In 2005, Tom and Bobby moved to Keller, Texas, to be closer to their family.

Tom was passionate about sports. In high school, he was a kicker on the football team and a member of the county champion Carrolton High School baseball team. He played professional baseball in Clovis, New Mexico, before enlisting in the Army and continued to play baseball and softball for many years. His favorite team to watch was the St. Louis Cardinals. He enjoyed bowling and played in several leagues in Oklahoma.

Bobby talked Tom into trying golf in 1944, and it quickly became his number one pastime. In fact, the reason Tom and Bobby retired to Bella Vista was because of all the golf courses. Tom played golf almost every day of the week in Bella Vista, served on the POA Board of Directors, won the POA Club Championship in 1982 and was the runner-up in 1983. Whenever Tom vacationed, he took his golf clubs with him. He golfed all over the Continental United States. He also teed up on two Hawaiian Islands, Puerto Rico, St. Croix, Bermuda and Fiji. He enjoyed games in Canada, Australia, Scotland, England, Spain, Switzerland and even both of the King's courses in Morocco. Tom was very proud of the fact that he often shot at or under his age. Over his 60 years of golf, Tom made five holes in one, his last at age 83.

In addition to sports, Tom also enjoyed working the New York Times Crossword, gardening, and decorating the yard for various holidays, but, most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Bernard Moore Sr., and Nannie Mae Shaw Moore; and his sister, Martha Jo Moore Cozby.

Tom is survived by his wife of 75 years, Barbara "Bobby" Main Moore; son, Thomas C. Moore and wife, Dorothy; daughter, Susan Whittle and husband, Christopher; granddaughters, Barbara Dunlap and husband, Brian; Victoria Pope and husband, Jason; Darci Shannon and husband, Keith; great-grandchildren, Laura, Thomas and Anna Dunlap; Katherine and Matthew Pope; Susan, Lillianna and Amelia Shannon.

Services will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018, at 3:30 p.m., at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home, 400 Freeport Parkway, Coppell, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
