Board considers golf simulator

During the montly work session last week, the POA Board of Directors heard from Golf Operations Director Phillip Wright about a new piece of equipment he would like to install at the Tanyard Creek Driving Range. The board usually doesn't vote at work sessions, instead they discuss issues that will be on the next regular meeting agenda. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 21.

The golf simulator would be inside at Tanyard Creek so it could be used year round. The Golf Pros would use it to fit golf clubs for customers but it could also be used by members to play a virtual round of golf. Wright said he expected it to be used in the winter when the courses are closed due to cold weather, but also during the very hot summer months.

An individual or a group can play a round on the simulator, he said. It could be reserved just like a tee time, so members would get priority during busy times.

The cost of the equipment will be about $17,000.

Wright said he's looking for a new facilities supervisor for Tanyard who could also help teach.

General Manager Tom Judson updated the board on current projects including renovations at the Country Club and Branchwood. The Country Club is getting close to completion, but he's still waiting to announce an opening date for the restaurant and pro shop. The golf course is operational.

The Branchwood renovation can't begin until Carroll Electric completes work on the lines, he said. They've been in touch, but are still waiting for that work to be done. Meanwhile, he led a tour of the building for about ten members last week.

Also, he told the board that the Flood Study meetings are underway and he's collecting email from members who have ideas about that issue. Also, the Five Year Financial Planning Task Force has held two meetings and members are looking at suggestions from staff to increase income and cut expenses.
