Staff Reports

Girl Scout Troop 5340 offers its thanks to the Bella Vista community for buying Girl Scout cookies this spring. The troop was able to use the money earned from selling more than 5,000 boxes of cookies to completely pay for the group to travel to South Dakota for a week of camping at Custer State Park.

The girls gave a 12-minute presentation to the crowds at Mount Rushmore about flag etiquette that included asking for volunteers to learn how to properly fold the American flag. The scout troop had been practicing for months and it paid off. The girls did so well that, in addition to applause, the troop was awarded a retired flag that had once flown there.

On this trip, the girls also got to see wild buffalo, mountain goats, visit Crazy Horse Memorial, the Devils Tower in Wyoming and participate in an amazing ropes course 30-feet up in the treetops.

Cookie sales allowed these girls to explore their beautiful nation, practice public speaking and gain confidence in themselves.
