When you go to the garden nursery or box store and buy a carload of potted plants for your flower beds and patio containers, what do you do with the black or white 1-gallon size plastic pots once you've placed the plants in your garden? The Bella Vista Garden Club is hoping that you will stack them together and take them to the Bella Vista Recycle Center at 400 Pinion Drive, just off U.S. 71.

The Recycle Center and the Garden Club have been working together since last fall to collect and reuse the 1-gallon size and larger containers. Previously, the Recycle Center had no resource for recycling pots, so they were disposed of as trash. Now the Recycle Center collects these pots and gives them to the Garden Club for use in their spring and fall plant sales.

At this time the Garden Club is unable to use anything but the 1-gallon size pots that are about 7 to 8 inches tall. This size is perfect for the perennials which club members thin from existing gardens and replant for the sales.

The Bella Vista Garden Club holds plant sales on the first Saturday of May and on the first Saturday in October.

Members of the Garden Club dig and divide plants from their own gardens that are then potted into the containers and nurtured until the next plant sale. These are healthy plants; many are hybrids and desirable varieties. They are proven to do well in the dry summer heat and rocky soil of Northwest Arkansas. Many are native to Arkansas, so they will thrive in your gardens.

The Garden Club will have several trees and shrubs, as well and numerous perennials, at the Spring Plant Sale which will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Village Waste Water, located just off U.S. 71 at 380 Bella Vista Way.
