Kansas Sunflower Club

The Kansas Sunflower Club will meet at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23, at the Highland Christian Church at 1500 Forest Hills Blvd. This month we are playing Bingo and ask everyone to bring one Bingo prize. We are still having our $3 pizza and drinks and asking each one to bring a pot luck salad, vegetable or dessert dish to share. All former Kansas residents are welcome to attend our Kansas Sunflower Club meetings the fourth Monday of every month. There are no dues.

Iota Alpha Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi

The Iota Alpha Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the home of Mary Kay Lang with Sharon Reeves as co-hostess. The group enjoyed a fall floral arrangement demonstration by Penny Frahm. The service project for the month was nonperishable food items for Cooper Elementary School children. October's social will be lunch followed by a visit to the Crystal Bridges Museum for a Women In Art tour later this month. Next month's meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, at First Western Bank.

Kingsdale Squares

The Kingsdale Squares will dance at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, at Riordan Hall in Bella Vista. Jay Wright will be calling. There will be a workshop at 6:30 p.m. prior to the dance.

Genealogical Society

The Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, at the Bentonville Public Library, 405 S. Main St. Dr. Peter Dykema, history professor at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, will present a program on Germany and German immigration into the U.S. The public is welcome. McKissic Chapter of SAR

The McKissic Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will meet at the Methodist Church on Boyce Drive in Bella Vista at 10 a.m. Oct. 21. The Rev. Robert Miskimen, Chapter President, announced that PHD Muriel Cross will present a personal and interesting topic. She and her husband, Col. Emil Cross, have served for decades in the DAR and SAR.

Calico Cut-Ups

Calico Cut-Ups is a quilt guild of Bella Vista. The next meeting will be Oct. 23 at First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Dr., Bella Vista. It will begin at 1 p.m. and the cost is $5, if you are not a member, to help pay for the speaker. Speaker will be Suzi Parron who will be talking about the barn quilt movement that can be seen throughout the country, with quilt blocks painted on wood to adorn homes. They can be seen inside homes or outside. They are very cute and can be mounted on a building or used as a lawn ornament.

There will be a workshop at 9 a.m. that morning. The cost is $45 and all supplies are provided to create and paint a two-foot by two-foot quilt board to take home. Hope to see you there. Email questions to [email protected].

Women's Chorus

Bella Vista Women's Chorus invites singers from the Tri-County area to join them. All are welcome with no tryouts or experience needed. The chorus performs classical, pop, folk and show tunes for local clubs and events. Rehearsals are Mondays at 12:45 p.m. in the music room of Bella Vista First United Methodist Church. Veterans Day, Nov. 11, the chorus will sing to support veterans at the "Veteran's Day Musical Salute." Joined by the Bella Vista Men's Chorus, Perfect Harmony and the Bentonville High School Chamber Choir, singers will honor veterans in song. The performance is at the Bella Vista Community Church at 3 p.m. Nov. 11. This concert is a fundraiser for the National Cemetery in Fayetteville and the Veterans Wall of Honor in Bella Vista.

Traveling Sams

Twenty-six members and guests of the Bella Vista Traveling Sams attended the annual Area 1 Good Sams Friendship campout in Grove, Okla., Sept. 21-24. The Jolly Rogers Sams and the Fort Smith Bell Point Sams also attended this event.

The group started with Thursday night dinner and an auction. Friday morning, the Bella Vista Sams provided a pancake/sausage breakfast. Later, the group went to Miami, Okla. to tour the Coleman Theater. The theater was built in 1929 by the Coleman family and today it is still an operating theater with a vintage pipe organ called the "Mighty Wurlitzer." The three chapters enjoyed card games, eating, and visiting. Saturday morning the three chapters played against each other for a game of "corn hole" and the Bella Vista Traveling Sams won the game. The next meeting for the Bella Vista Traveling Sams will be the annual clean up at Devil's Den State Park, Oct. 22 -- 25.

NWA Marine Corps League Detachment 854

NWA Marine Corps League Detachment 854 meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. the third Monday of the month at American Legion Post 341, 1885 Bella Vista Way, in Bella Vista.

By being a member of the League, active duty and former Marines, Fleet Marine Force Corpsmen, and auxiliary members strengthen ties with fellow Marines and provide a place where members can talk about their experiences with people who understand. The League interacts with the local community through volunteering with the local Veterans Administration, providing assistance for homeless veterans, input on legislative action, and funding for emergency relief; and assisting with the annual Toys for Tots. Members of the Marine Corps League join for the purpose of preserving traditions and promoting the interests of the U.S. Marine Corps; banding together those who are currently serving and those who have been honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps. It aids and assists all active duty and former Marines, FMF Corpsmen, and their widows and orphans. The League promotes the ideals of American freedom and democracy, perpetuating U.S. Marine Corps history and observing anniversaries of historical occasions that are of particular interest to Marines.

Kiwanis Club

Weekly meetings are held at 7 a.m. every Thursday at Concordia Retirement Center. Breakfast is available. Visitors, Kiwanis members and former Kiwanis members are invited to attend.

Perfect Harmony Women's Barbershop Chorus

Perfect Harmony Women's Barbershop Chorus meets every Monday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the choir room of the United Lutheran Church of Bella Vista. Director Karen Frankenfeld, will find a part that fits every voice. No previous experience or try outs are required.

Fly-Tyers Club

The Fly-Tyers Club meetings are every Thursday at Riordan Hall, beginning at 9 a.m. for a social hour followed by a meeting from 10 to 11 a.m. The club is a fishing, conservation, and service organization consisting of approximately 150 members. This group of men and women share a common interest in fishing (both warm and cold-water species) found in the local streams and lakes of Bella Vista. The club also promotes lake conservation, recreational activities, and conducts service projects throughout northwest Arkansas.

Sunrise Rotary Club

The Bella Vista Sunrise Rotary Club has a breakfast meeting at 7 a.m. every Wednesday in the Concordia Main Building, 1 Concordia Drive, Bella Vista. Guests are welcome. For more information call Sean at 417-455-6654.

Pride of the Ozarks Barbershop Chorus

The Pride of the Ozarks Barbershop Chorus meets from 7 to 9 p.m. every Thursday at Innisfree Senior Living Community, 300 Innisfree Circle, Rogers, which is one block east on 24th and Walnut streets. Woodcarvers Club

The Woodcarvers Club is made up of both men and women enjoying the art of carving and pyrography (wood burning). Members share their talents and ideas in the weekly meetings from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays at Riordan Hall. The club is made up of beginners, in-between to very experienced carvers. The club has a library of carving books and for those needing ideas. Come by and visit and perhaps join for a nominal yearly fee. The Bella Vista Woodcarvers Club is a nonprofit organization and has 48 members to date and growing.
