Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will have their monthly meeting on Oct. 10. The meeting will be held at Foghorns Restaurant at 2221 W. Walnut St., Rogers. Dinner will be at 6 p.m. and the meeting at 7 p.m. The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is a fraternal organization honoring the heritage of those who fought for the United States during the Civil War. Ozark Hill Hikers

The Ozark Hill Hikers invite all interested walkers to two walks, with both 5K and 10K options available.

The Wednesday, Oct. 4,walk is in Bentonville. Registration is at 9 a.m. at Caseys, 100 S.E. J St., Bentonville.

The Saturday, Oct. 14, walk is in downtown Rogers and Lake Atalanta. Registration is at 9 a.m. at Jiffy Kwick, 219 S. Arkansas St., Rogers.

Radio Club

Apple/Mac Computer Club

The Bella Vista and NWA Apple and Mac Computer Users Club will have their next meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, at at Riordan Hall.

The subject for October's meeting will include a presentation on the new release of the Apple mobile devices (iPhone and iPad) and iOS 11.0.1. This new Operating System from Apple has a number of new features which we will discuss in the meeting.

The Bella Vista NWA Apple and Mac Computer Club meets on the first Thursday of each month at Riordan Hall. Monthly meeting agendas include discussions of new operating systems and their updates; presentations on iCloud; taking better pictures with your iPhone and many other pertinent discussions on use of your Apple devices: phones, iPads and Mac Computers.

Laureate Alpha Gamma

Laureate Alpha Gamma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Katie Holloway on Wednesday, Sept. 13. President Pat Zornes called the meeting to order and all outstanding committees gave their reports. Final plans were made for the Fall Tea which was Sept. 29 at the Bella Vista Community Church. This tea is the time for all the local Bella Vista Chapters to get together and have a chance to interact with each other.

Kiwanis Club

Weekly meetings are held at 7 a.m. every Thursday at Concordia Retirement Center. Breakfast is available. Visitors, Kiwanis members and former Kiwanis members are invited to join us.

Kiwanis Club elects officers

Bella Vista Kiwanis Club honored the officers for 2017-18 with an Installation Banquet on Sept. 21 at Concordia Retirement Center. Assistant District Governor David Bailey conducted the installation. Officers include Bob Heffron, president; Julie Storm, secretary; and David Gosnell,treasurer.

Kingsdale Squares

The Kingsdale Squares will dance at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at Riordan Hall at the Kingsdale Complex. Jay Wright will be calling. There will be a workshop at 6:30 p.m. prior to the dance.

Computer Club

Computer Security will be the discussion topic at the Bella Vista Computer Club meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 9. Luap McKeever from Ozark Computer Works will present the program. McKeever will also address issues concerning the recent hacking of Equifax. This public meeting is in Room A at Highlands Crossing Center, 1801 Forest Hills Blvd. Bella Vista.

Members may receive technology support at the club's walk in clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 18. The Genealogy Special Interest Group will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 21. The club's website at www.bvcompclub.org has detailed directions to our meeting room and club information.

Altrusa Club

On Oct. 17, Diana Worthen, of One Community will present a program to the Altrusa Club of Bentonville/Bella Vista. Altrusa International of Bentonville/Bella Vista meet at 11:30 a.m. at River Grille in Bentonville on the first and third Tuesdays of the month. Amateur Radio Club

The Bella Vista Radio Club is excited to now offer amateur radio license testing through the American Radio Relay League. Testing sessions will be held at 2 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month at the Highland Christian Church in Bella Vista, 1500 Forest Hills Blvd. (Arkansas Highway 279).

Historical Museum

The annual open house at the Bella Vista Historical Museum will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12. There will be door prizes and refreshments, and everyone is welcome. The museum has displays showing more than 100 years of Bella Vista History. The museum is located next to the American Legion at the corner of U.S. Highway 71 and Kingsland Road in Bella Vista.

Perfect Harmony Women's Barbershop Chorus

Perfect Harmony Women's Barbershop Chorus meets every Monday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the choir room of the United Lutheran Church of Bella Vista. Director Karen Frankenfeld, will find a part that fits your voice. No previous experience or try outs are required.

Fly-Tyers Club

The Bella Vista Fly-Tyers Club is sponsoring fly-tying classes beginning on Monday, Sept. 25, and continuing through March. Both introductory and advanced classes will be taught by master tyers: club members Gary Rowland, David Barham, and Ray Atkinson. Classes, which begin at noon and last until 1:30 p.m., are held at Riordan Hall in Bella Vista. Classes are held weekly.

Class members have an opportunity to learn a hobby which could last a lifetime and enjoy a great social atmosphere. The class will be tying flies for trout and pan fish. There is no cost for the instruction for members (annual membership in the Fly-Tyers Club is $15). There are nominal costs for fly-tying materials: tool kits (including vises) are available for around $30, hooks are 10 cents each and other materials for tying are free. Stop into a meeting or send an email.

The regular club meetings are every Thursday in Riordan Hall in Bella Vista, beginning at 9 a.m. for a social hour followed by a meeting from 10 to 11 a.m.

Sunrise Rotary Club

The Bella Vista Sunrise Rotary Club has a breakfast meeting at 7 a.m. every Wednesday in the Concordia Main Building, 1 Concordia Drive, Bella Vista. Guests are welcome.

P.E.O. Chapter BR

Preparing for the Holidays? Want to offer delicious pastries to family and guests? To benefit the education of women, P.E.O. Chapter BR is selling delectable pastries in a variety of flavors -- blueberry, cream cheese, strawberry, cinnamon, and apple.

Proceeds of the sale will support the P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education which provides scholarships for women who find it necessary to return to school to support themselves and/or their families. The P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education was established in 1973 and has provided a total of $52,609,204 in grants to 44,437 deserving women. This program is the favorite of P.E.O. State President Jean Fitch Justice. The braided stollens which serve at least 12 people, arrive frozen and can be stored in the freezer for six months, ready to be thawed overnight and baked for 20 minutes the next morning, just in time for guests to enjoy for breakfast or a holiday brunch. Sales will extend through the end of September, arriving just before Thanksgiving.

Pride of the Ozarks Barbershop Chorus

The Pride of the Ozarks Barbershop Chorus meets from 7 to 9 p.m. every Thursday at Innisfree Senior Living Community, 300 Innisfree Circle, Rogers, which is one block east on 24th and Walnut streets. Males of any age, color or creed who enjoy acapella singing are welcome and invited. Vocal music experience is helpful.

Woodcarvers Club

The Woodcarvers Club is made up of both men and women enjoying the art of carving and pyrography (wood burning). The club is made up of both beginners, in between and to very experienced carvers. Members share their talents and ideas in the weekly meetings from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursdays at Riordan Hall. The club has a library of carving books and for those needing ideas. Come by and visit and perhaps join for a nominal yearly fee. The Bella Vista Woodcarvers Club is a nonprofit organization and has 48 members to date and growing.

Women's Chorus

Bella Vista Women's Chorus invites singers from the area to join them. All are welcome with no tryouts or experience needed. The chorus performs classical, pop, folk and show tunes. Rehearsals are at 12:45 p.m.Mondays in the music room of the Bella Vista First United Methodist Church. The chorus is available to sing at club meetings and events.

Decorative Artists

The Bella Vista Decorative Artists meet at 9 a.m. the second Saturday of each month to have a business meeting and painting session at Wishing Spring Studio at 8862 W. McNelly Road, next to Walgreens. The purpose of the chapter is to stimulate interest and appreciation for the art of painting. BVDA does a variety of service projects. This year, we are working with the Village House in Bella Vista, Children's Shelter, and Memory Boxes for local hospitals. Each month BVDA has a chapter member or a visiting national artist teach an art project in acrylics, oils, watercolor, or mixed mediums. Painters of all skill levels make up the BVDA Chapter. Visitors are welcome.
