Blowing Springs Questers to meet

The Blowing Springs Chapter of Questers International will hold their next meeting in the home of Harriett Neer on Monday, May 22. Harriett will present a program on Doll Collections. Questers is a nonprofit organization with a focus on researching, restoring and preserving artifacts for the future. Kayak class at Hobbs

Have you ever wanted to learn to kayak? Here is your chance to learn from a kayak instructor for the American Canoe Association. Participants will learn all aspects of paddling while exploring a calm area of Beaver Lake. Recreational kayaks, paddles, and life jackets will be provided. Space is limited and open to 16 years and older. Bring a sack lunch, drinking water, sunscreen, and dress for the weather. The trip begins at Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area Visitor's Center on Arkansas Highway 12 just east of the intersection with War Eagle Road. Sessions are from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 22; June 7, 21; July 9, 26; Aug. 6, 13, 17, 30; and Sept. 10, 20. The cost is $50 per person. Registration and pre-payment is required. Woodcarvers show July 15

Bella Vista Woodcarvers Club is having an Artistry in Wood Show on Saturday, July 15. Come and see the imagination and creativity of local woodcarvers, wood turners, pyrographers (wood burning). There will be soap carving for kids. The show is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bella Vista Assembly of God Church, 1771 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, across from the post office in the Highlands. Free admission and door prizes.

NARFE meets June 9

National and Retired Federal Employees, Bella Vista Chapter 1547 of the National Active and Retired Employees Association will hold their next monthly meeting at 10 a.m. Friday, June 9, in Hometown Bank, 2116 Highway 71 South, Pineville, Mo. Members will celebrate Chapter 1547's 40th anniversary by having pizza with Mayor Peter Christie, who will be the speaker. All current and retired federal employees and their spouses are welcome. Shiloh Museum has summer camps

Registration is underway at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History's summer camps for children. Campers will explore the intersection of science and history through hands-on activities and crafts related to photography, water, trees, and inventions. Snacks are provided for both camps. Lunch is provided for campers attending Session II. Session I, for ages 7-10, takes place 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. June 19-23. Cost is $30 for museum members and $40 for nonmembers. Session II, for ages 11-14, takes place 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 10-14. Cost is $45 for museum members and $55 for nonmembers. Space is limited for both camps. Preregistration and payment is required. A limited number of scholarships are available. The registration deadline is May 31 or when camps are full. Photo day camps planned

Day camps held all over northwest Arkansas offer a variety of outdoor escapes and unique learning opportunities for our youth. Hobbs State Park is partnering with the Photographic Society of Northwest Arkansas to offer the first Summer Youth Photography Camp. The Camp will consist of morning sessions over a three-day period. The sessions will include lectures, hands-on techniques, and outdoor photography walks. Class instruction will be given by Bob Coleman, a master photographer. Equipment required: Compact point-and-shoot camera, memory card, photo journal book. Optional equipment: DSLR camera and case, camera manual, laptop with picture editing program. Classes are 9 a.m. to noon June 27-29 for ages 14-17. The cost is $100 per child for all three days. Pre-registration and pre-payment required.
