Zoning Adjustment Board elects officers

The Board of Zoning Adjustments elected officers and adjusted wording on some review criteria during a meeting Feb. 21.

Chairman Robert Walker was nominated for another run as chairman by board member Charles Whittenberg. Larry Wilms seconded the nomination, which passed unanimously.

Walker nominated Whittenberg for vice chairman and he was approved unanimously.

The board also discussed making changes to the review criteria.

Senior planner Jennifer Bonner said there was some question as to where, precisely, the "no" or "not" should be in some questions on the variance request form, and whether the board wanted uniformity of answers -- that is, if the board should seek "yes" answers across all criteria.

The council agreed unanimously to change a handful of words, ensuring uniformity across the questions. Ideally, all will get a "yes" answer.

"This has been a lot of work but I'm a lot happier with it now," Whittenberg said.

Additionally, Bonner said, it's worth noting that there are still a handful of seats on volunteer boards for the city, including the Board of Zoning Adjustments, which has one open seat. The Planning Commission, she said, also has an open seat, while the Board of Construction Appeals has two open seats.

Bonner said she would like to hear from anyone who might be interested in any of these seats. Applications can be found on the city website, she said, or picked up at the Community Development Services Department at 616 W. Lancashire Blvd.
