Volunteer boards have open seats

Several of the city's volunteer boards are looking for new members as terms expire.

Jennifer Bonner, senior planner with Community Development Services, said that there are openings on the Board of Construction Appeals, the Board of Zoning Adjustments, the Planning Commission and the Public Safety Committee.

Below is the current list of openings (or about-to expire term appointments). All of these boards are on the same application on the website.

Board of Construction Appeals — One term to expire on Jan. 1, 2017; term is for 3 years

Two new positions to be filled with the same term expiration as the position above

Applicants need construction-related experience (contractor, engineer, surveyor, inspector, sub-contractor, handyman, etc.)

Board of Zoning Adjustments — One term to be filled due to current position holder having been elected to City Council; current term expires in Oct. 1, 2017

Applicants need development-related experience (contractor, financier, inspector, sub-contractor, handyman, etc.)

Planning Commission —Two terms expire on March 1, 2017; term is for 4 years

Applicants need development-related experience (contractor, financier, inspector, sub-contractor, handyman, etc.)

Public Safety Committee - up to 5 positions are currently vacant

Library Board — Currently no vacancies on the board, but the library is always looking for other volunteers for their various events and activities.

While the deadline would normally be in December, she said, there's been a shortage of applicants.

"I've had a couple (applications) go out, but none came in," she said.

Applications, she said, can be filled out in person at the Community Development Services office at 616 W. Lancashire Blvd., or on the city's website at bellavistaar.gov. Interested parties can also call Community Development Services at 479-268-4980.
