Work session produces revised policies

After an evening meeting didn't draw an audience, the Property Owners Association Board of Directors moved their work session back to early morning. They met at 8 a.m. Thursday last week with a short agenda.

An ongoing project for the board and the Rules and Regulations Committee has been updating governing documents and last week the board discussed changes to policies 3.02 through 8.031. Most of the changes make the documents consistent and include nomenclature, board member Pat Laury explained after the meeting. For example, in the revised policies, "the POA" becomes the "Association" and "board members" become "directors."

Laury also brought a new project to the board. The POA will acknowledge Random Acts of Kindness Week -- which began Monday -- on the POA Facebook page. People will be given the opportunity to post their own Random Acts of Kindness on the Facebook page, he said, and other community pages will probably pick them up to repost.

Laury gave examples of the Random Acts of Kindness including picking up a neighbor's paper and bringing it to their front door or telling a veteran, "Thank you for your service."

The POA, he said, gets some negative reactions and he believes highlighting kindness will help the community.

The board also discussed a request from Golf Maintenance Manager Keith Ihms to waive the three bid requirement for a special mower the Golf Department needs. It is only available from one company and Ihms negotiated a discount. The board doesn't vote in work sessions so the matter will be brought up at the next board meeting.
