Concerned with the spending of $998,000

Editor,

I recently read an article in the Weekly Vista that our POA Board will be spending $998,000 on the Branchwood center. I am a very concerned resident of Bella Vista. The money you are planning to spend on Branchwood should be spent on Berksdale, Kingswood and the Country Club golf courses. These three courses suffer damage every year due to flooding. We need to put in hydraulic and/or electric gates or fencing in the areas of flooding to prevent this from happening. These would be put in permanent solid concrete and could go as high as 12 feet. Let's get our priorities in order -- spending money to keep these courses open and available all the time would bring in needed funds. These are popular courses for tournaments, as well as favorites for our senior golfers.

Let's do the job right on these courses. Repairing them constantly due to flooding is a waste of money -- likely to reoccur the following year and here we go again. We need to spend money on all our facilities to stay competitive -- but keeping these three golf courses open will end up making money.

I feel the residents of Bella Vista should vote on expenditures of almost a million dollars at one facility. POA, do you work for us, or do we work for you?

I understand someone recently requested shoe cleaners at our golf courses but was told this was too expensive. This is an investment that would be very small and would be appreciated by all golfers.

Ps. Cooper gave the lake to Bentonville several years ago. I heard that Bentonville agreed to keep the dam cleaned out. Has anyone looked at it lately?
