The Bella Vista Historical Museum will host a book signing, starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, with Bella Vista author B.J. Tassin, of her novel "Bona-Fide."

The novel, set in the 1960s, is about the struggles of a rural family deep in the woods of the Ozarks, 22 miles from the nearest town, where 10-year-old Sassy and her family live a cloistered life in an old broken-down school bus.

When her mother falls ill, she and her young siblings set out on foot to find their father and bring him home to help. Not knowing their last name makes things a little complicated for the local town folk to help.

"Bona-Fide" is like opening a time capsule to the late 1960s. B.J. Tassin, a native of Louisiana, moved to Northwest Arkansas with her husband, Scott, in 2002 because of their love for this area, and moved to Bella Vista in 2004. B.J. has roots in the Ozarks on her father's side of the family and found it the perfect place to explore and write.

With their three grown children married and off to start their own lives, the timing seemed perfect. When her father was dying of cancer, it was his wish that she complete the story and get it published. The book was released late last spring and sold worldwide through major book distributors and companies such as Amazon, Walmart, Barnes & Noble, Books A Million and other online book stores.

"Bona-Fide" is B.J.'s first novel to be published, but there are several more books in the works for B.J., two of which are the prequel and sequel to "Bona-Fide." In addition to signing books, B.J. will do a presentation about her novel at 2 p.m.

Bella Vista Historical Museum is located at the corner of U.S. Highway 71 and Kingsland Road, next door to the American Legion. Admission is always free. For information about the museum, see www.bellavistamuseum.org or check it out on Facebook.
