More on Rejuvenation Plan

The member's letter in the Aug. 31 edition of The Weekly Vista, "Rejuvenation? Consider this," questions the need for the Rejuvenation Plan as laid out by our new COO. I agree with the writer's conclusion that we may not be spending our money wisely. I have voted for every assessment proposal in the 22 years I have lived here, but this time I am not inclined to do so.

I won't repeat the writer's letter, but will make some supportive comments.

Why do we need to rejuvenate Kingswood, which was recently remodeled? Papa Mike's is the only place in Bella Vista that is a successful restaurant and has a large customer base. Why remodel the recently remodeled Country Club? What is the logic of an amphitheater at Branchwood? Why would we think people will go to Lakepoint after the $1.3 million remodel? I'm sure it will be a high-dollar restaurant. Is that a "fit" for Bella Vista?

The CEO says the new assessment ($33 and $19) will be enough to cover the cost of the entire Rejuvenation Plan plus our normal POA business expenses through 2021. This would mean that the current assessment ($24 and $16) is enough for all the other expenses of running the entire POA through 2021. Considering that there will no doubt be an increase in business costs each year and some kind of flood or other emergency, how can our current assessment be expected to do this? I don't think it will. Another assessment?

The CEO says he wants to make Bella Vista into a resort community. Frankly, I don't want to live in a resort community. If I did, I would live at Beaver Lake. The living concept of Bella Vista has never been in question. Why change from what has drawn people here all these years? Remodel? Yes. But change the whole living concept? No.

And then the new director of Golf Operations says, "Anyone who plays here would be a guest of the POA." Private courses that are not private?

The new management has decided that all these changes will bring in hoards of new residents to Bella Vista who will then pay assessments, but I ask, if we continue to give non-members access to golf, new beaches, mountain bike trails, etc., etc., why would they want to move here and pay assessments? Just show up and use the amenities.
