New wayfinding signs in works for POA facillities

Ruth Hatcher, a member of the Property Owners Association Board and the Marketing Committee, heard General Manager Ton Judson's plan to complete a project she started in 2011.

In 2011 Hatcher was serving on the Golf Committee, which was assigned the problem of signage around the POA. She was part of a small group that traveled all over Bella Vista looking at the existing signs and noting what was needed. In August 2011 she had a list of the signs she believed were needed and she had already visited with the city planning office.

It was around that same time that both the city and the POA heard about the regional wayfinding signs, the large blue signs that have since been erected all over northwest Arkansas. According to an August 2013 Weekly Vista story, the city agreed to pay $59,000 for their share of 23 signs. The Walton Family Foundation paid $63,371.

The POA had declined to participate in the program because of the cost, so most of the wayfinding signs don't point to POA amenities. Two amenities, Blowing Springs Park and Tanyard Creek Nature Trail, are included in the signage projects.

Instead, the POA repainted the wooden signs that mark many amenities.

At the Marketing Committee meeting on Oct. 3, Judson announced that he had received bids from three companies for signs similar to the wayfinding signs. The low bid for 14 signs came in at $65,187.40. The signs should be up by November, he said.

Because the money is coming out of the Lakepoint and the Scotsdale projects, most of the signs will be pointing to those two locations, he said. Next year, the POA will probably look at signage for amenities on the east side of the village.

Marketing Director John Walsh had several updates for the board. The Scotsdale Grand Opening plans were almost complete at that meeting. The event happened on Oct. 7.

A Veterans Day Golf Tournament and a Meet the Pros event are coming up in November. A new event, an adult Halloween dance, is planned for Oct. 28 at Riordan Hall.

POA golf courses are now listed on Golf 18, an Internet service that allows travelers to find courses and book tee times, Walsh said. He expects the service to take a while to catch on. Plans with another similar service, Golf Now, will be finalized soon.
