Author holding Saturday book signing

Marie Meyer, aka Jeri Meyer, an author living in Bella Vista, will be having a book signing at Barnes and Noble Book Store in Rogers, (across from Lowes) from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday.

"Into the Cave" is a teenage time travel novelette. Fifteen-year-old Adam Mealin loves school and is a straight-A student but is constantly being bullied by football player Scott Farmer. Adam's best friend and next door neighbor, Jenny Elliott, describes Scott as a Neanderthal and tells Adam to ignore Scott's constant taunts.

With plans to go trekking for a biology assignment in a nearby forest, Adam and Jenny happen upon a cave which they had never noticed before. Jenny and Adam explore the cave, only to come face to face with a family of Neanderthals who mistake them both for gods. The leader of the group is a doppelganger for Scott and introduces himself as Grot. Initially, Jenny and Adam think Scott is taking part in a re-enactment of sorts, but when they turn to leave, the cave has closed off and they are stuck in a prehistoric world where they are forced to hunt and gather for food and clothing, drink from a nearby stream, fight off wild animals that want to kill them and run from an angry swarm of bees, all the while wondering if they will ever make it home -- and to their own time.

"What a wonderfully unusual story! M.M. Meyer has adventure story-telling down to a fine art. The very real and problematic issue of bullying is tackled masterfully in 'Into the Cave,' as is the importance of knowing how to swim and learning basic first aid. I very much enjoyed 'Into the Cave' and recommend it to all readers over the age of 12 (including adults) who enjoy action, humor, drama and tragedy all rolled into one amazing historic adventure." -- Review by Readers' Favorite

"Book is Great!!" -- Dr. Josephine Amoit, English Professor at Minnesota University.

Miss Meyer has two other books for small children: "The Cardinal That Cawed Like a Crow" and "Things That go Thunk in the Night."
