Patterson hearing set for Dec. 7

A hearing regarding charges against Ralph Patterson is set for Dec. 7 in Bentonville District Court.

Patterson entered a plea of not guilty on two counts of misdemeanor theft related to taking two "Vote No" signs off the side of Arkansas Highway 340.

Patterson could not be reached for comment, but has previously stated that he did take the signs, but he believed they were placed unlawfully and that removing them was not unlike picking up litter.

Patterson said that police informed him that, in the future, he should report any improperly-placed signs to code enforcement and refrain from taking care of them himself.

The signs belonged to Jim Parsons, who said he witnessed Patterson taking the signs and called in a partial plate number, which was used to identify him.

Until it goes to trial, the city's staff attorney Jason Kelley said, there isn't a lot to comment on.

"It's still pending," Kelley said.
